LS1 Relocated Coils
I mentioned a while back that I was relocating the coils to inside the ends of the foot boxes. I had machined up the brackets but hadn't got around to mounting them. I pulled finger the other night and got them in place and the coil looms re-done. I've still got to get some new leads made in the right lengths but I've plugged the original leads on so you get the idea.

A couple of questions for you:- The footwell seems tight for room. Are you happy with a cover over the coils that you can get good access to the pedals? What is the red wire on the left side for? What are the heater outlets hooked up to? Nice bracket for the steering column. Did you think Ian's one was not up to the task? Cheers, Ben |

Beejay, It's a bit of an optical illusion with the camera angle but there's quite a bit of room between the clutch pedal and the coils. Enough for me with my blundstone boots on anyway. Don't know yet if I'll put a cover over the coils. The red wire is the main battery cable to the starter motor. I haven't put a lug on the end of it yet so it's still hanging there. A friend has got a nice hydraulic crimping tool that I'll borrow over the next week or so. It does a really nice job. The heater outlets aren't hooked up to anything yet. I'm still working out the path for the hoses. I picked up a couple of 120 degree #10 fittings to rout them down by the block. Scotty (OzVenom welded the AN fittings onto the water pump for me. He did a top job as usual.). I'll pick up some hose today and run them in. The other end has some bulkhead fittings I've machined up to go through the fire wall. I wasn't keen on Ians bracket so made my own. I guess I wasn't happy about the steering support just being attached to the fiberglass. I made the bracket so it wraps around the end of the foot box and is fixed in 2 planes rather than just one. I also glassed some steel plates into the end of the foot box with nuts welded to them. This provides some extra support and also makes it easy to bolt in by myself rather than having someone holding a spanner in the end of the footbox. The whole thing is super rigid so I think it worked. I've still got to clean up the glass and get some bolts the right length. Cheers |
Your new coil setup sure looks pridy there Mike.
It sure looks to me that you have way to much time on your hands, you have even made the coil brackets (that no one will see) look pridy with all them little holes in it. Some of the guys at work here are saying that it all looks good apart from the plastic intake manifold (saying that will make you rip it off this weekend). Now stop making all the pretty things, get the car registered and get it ready to drive out here in August. |

Mike I found the spline broach for tortion bars I will bring it to the meeting thursday night,also I've lost date joined munber of posts etc(in the right top corner) how do I get back

Not sure how to get that info back. Did you have to re register when the forum fired up again? My guess is that since we are running on an old copy of the forum that it also remembers our settings and post counts from that time. I think I was up over 2000 posts when the crash happened and I was running a different avitar. See you Thursday. |

I assumed that small electric heaters under the dash were what everyone used these days. Probably only get used at rego time?

I picked up a neat little Denso heater at a swap meet a few years back. I figure with the colder weather we get down here that an effective heater might be nice to have.
