Cameron!
Let me apologies too!... but my intention is not criticize, Intention of my post is to say that, really, here in europe SPF, Backdraft, etc.... are being sold around 100K-120K. Perhaps for many people could seem too much money for a replica but if we take into account that a 50K US$ car, after importation is increased in 16% IVA, 12% registration, and in many countries that is not allowed to registrate as a 1965 you must add importation taxes..... so you could need 80K to drive one SPF in europe and tons of aspirine for headache that suppouses all heavy tramits. More headaches if you can title it as a 1965 wich implies that you can use a carb engine, sidepipes, and the original looking instead of a EFI motor, cats, head rest, rear gear light and tail fog ligth..etc changing all looking of your replica. My BDR have been sold around 45K and if someone offers me 80K for it....be sure that I will not sell "her". With respect to the Volkswagen Beetle....please let me make the joke because I consider a fraud to put on sale that car with a window card were says "Shelby Cobra"...... My apologies again if my mail was misinterpretated but my intention was only confirmate that, really, prices here in europe are round 100K-120K..... take into acount that you must increase almost 30% to convert to US$http://www.mobile.de/SIDr.XXmdKXlMjr...1111205113076&

I apoligize as well. Common sense wouldn't compute that the costs of certification would be so high. Good Luck on the sale.

The absolute value !!!
As I've gotten older and wiser I have realised that my dad was older and wiser.
He used to say..."It's worth exactly what someone is prepared to pay for it" He is dead right. |
I apologise too for not taking this thread seriously.

...pass the tissues,,, group hug...
:D |
Carn't compare apples with oranges.
Most kits in Oz would cost the average builder 40 to 60k at a guess. A few would be more expensive. Cameron bought a factory built turn key minus SPF, sourced a motor & transmission, had a 302 stroked to 347, had the 347 emission tested (expensive as I understand it as it's not based on a ford production emission friendly engine), added a/c & roof, and had the whole lot certified by an engineer for Australian Design Rules compliance. Plus he's added some nice shiny bits :) I doubt (and I'm only guessing here) that all of that in Oz would give you much change from 160K. The only problem I see with the price is what massed produced factory cars you can buy for that price. Eg BMW M3, Porche Caymen, Merc SLK 550 AMG etc etc. So I would guess that the buyer of Cam's SPF would most likely already have at the very least, one of the aforementioned cars....... |
Richard,
you I don't forgive... Nasty, mostly right, but I got the car as full turn key, and have not added any bits. It's a luxury for sure. As for the aforementioned cars, yes, I have had some of those you mention, and now I don't have any other car except the Cobra. It's all down to personal taste, I found that the other cars were just sitting in the garage gathering dust, so I sold them. It's a healthy discussion, and one that once again proves there are a lot of folk in world who like to do things differently and have different value sets. That's why we keep the psychiatric and legal professions healthy :JEKYLHYDE Cameron |
Of course it's worth every cent of what Cam wants for it.
In Aussieland it's a rare breed ...... not many here with FORD engines in 'em. :D Cam....you moving overseas?. Cheers |
Les,
I will be heading to Beijing for the next three years. Should have some pretty good seats for the Olympics ;) I will be at the next two breakkies, and then preparing the Welcome mat for my Aussie Cobra mates when they visit. I saw that those 'COBLA' plates were still available on ppq, might have to nab a set :p Cameron |
Cameron,
Your Cobra is very special indeed and will be a fabulous investment for the right person. Hope your sale goes well and your time in Beijing is enjoyable. I will miss you at the Nationals and Shelby Fest. Guess I'll have to find someone else to chase:LOL: for the next few years. Phil:) |
Cameron,
Superformance may have found the niche that Robnell had in supplying quality Cobra's all be it at a price. Check out the UK Daytona and the price they advertise - not cheap. Such cars at such prices can do only good to the whole Cobra market in Australia. Yes they are kit cars in that individuals can build their own, yet legislation forces the builder down the route of building a car that is of a similar standard as a mass produced production car - this should come at a price Anything that lifts the price of such a vehicle is good for the remaining Cobra's in the market place. To all - I've had a good look at Cameron's car (without him knowing) and this has to be the best quality Cobra in Australia (much better than a certain harlequin Cobra that won the National Show and Shine a few years back) Compare Cameron's car to a DB9 and you would agree it is cheap for what you get. Oh and is anybody interested in a DRB for $120k???? |
but...
Peter, I agree with all your comments....certainly quality Cobras on the aussie market is all good..but remember that said "harlequinn cobra" sold for just 1/2 of Cams' beautiful machine... so its relative...it not only comes down to what people are prepared to pay but also the true quality of any build. P.G's car was an awesome build in its own right IMO....but comparing it to Cams...I'll leave that to someone who is in the market..

The Superformance is a very interesting replica to be in the Aus market.
The closer you look at a Superformance, the more you realise how special it is. Just the body itself is a work of art. Gaps that us mere mortals would die for. And the shape in a lot of areas is just so different to what we have been led to believe is original...and it is an exact copy of at least one of the original cars. The more you look, the more you realise the money & effort that have gone into it's development. Just something you can't expect with our local products. The (deceased) Robnell had some of these same features, but in my opinion isn't in the same league overall. Interesting to compare it to P.G's Cobra. Did P.G's Cobra have any of the things that make Superformance special, nope, was it a special Cobra in it's own right, you bet. The Superformance is in a league of it's own in Aus and as such will demand a premium in my opinion, even 2nd hand. What's my favourite Cobra? My own builds. :) There is nothing like your own creation. And that's why a lot of people here wouldn't buy a Superformance. And that's why I've spent the last 12 months working on my GT40. |
Peter,
believe it or not, Colin (proprietor of CTC) was not at all pleased to se Robnell cease trading. Aside from the personal angst for Rob, it reduced competition and access to very high quality factory cars. As for your stealth missions to my car... I must get that proximity alarm connected :p Every car is a work of art, and no matter how it is built, to what budget and for what purpose, there is a TON of blood, sweat, tears and heart in there. I take my hat off to all builders. Cameron |
I hope you don't sell it!!!
HI Cameron,
I hope you put your car in moth balls and you don't sell it. That way we know that you will be back!!! Good luck on your move. Phil |
Cameron
Good luck with the sale. I'm not going to enter any discussion on a cars value. I think you summed it up by saying that you have interested parties - so guess you are not dreaming. %/ Unless it's the new project that captures your dreams. Knowing the value of a SPF and the work you've done, I'm sure there will be someone that wants a SPF and can add the 'add ons' in and come up with the dollars you ask. Again good luck. Mmmm would like to see it stored though and you back in it in a year or two!!! Bernie |
Bernie,
no new projects here, except brushing up on my Chinese. Oh and packing up the house, renting out the house, getting the kids into a new school, arranging to run all my Australia stuff by remote control, jumping through the China entry and work permit loops, selling my wife's car, trying to have a beer with everyone before I leave.... and getting ready for end of financial year......   With the outpouring of gracious commentry from this group you are all making me reconsider selling. Maybe I can arrange for some meetings back in Australia say early October and Feb **) And of course I have had a virtual flood of kindness from people offering to 'keep her well looked after for me', and even offers to drive it every week to prevent any stagnation.. Killing me with kindness  Cameron |
Hey Cameron, you can't sell the COBRA! I haven't been for a drive yet on those deadly race tyres.
Blair |
Blair....
Deadly  You didn't tell me that when I bought them.... I hope all is going well with your rebuilding after Larry.... Cheers cameron |
Cameron
Now I can see the Cobra on the outer ring road in China there. Pushing it's way through the thousands of bikes and converging taxis... Bernie |
