LS1 fuel systems
I have been nutting out my fuel system and have come up blank on one point.
I didn't remove the entire fuel system from the donor car and to me I am missing something. I intend on using a stock fuel system to begin with and since the LS1 has no stock fuel return there must be a fuel bleed back to the tank futher back on stock cars. Has anyone got the part number, or a photo, or even just confirmation of what I am talking about?:JEKYLHYDE Cheers Gav |
Hi Gav,
If you look at the stock pump setup there is a return circuit. There are 3 fittings on the top. One is the feed another is the return and the 3rd is a vint. It has a check valve in it so stop fuel running out if the car rolls over. There is a regulator built into the swirl pot part that the return line runs to. The fuel goes out of the outlet and into the filter I believe. Then there is a T fitting in the feed line and one side goes to the return connection on the pump setup ind into the regulator. The regulator bleeds any excess pressure off and feeds the fuel straight back to the swirl pot. Quite a neat setup really. I reckon if you wanted to you you could run the stock pump as a full return setup and just not use the T piece and run a line back from the rails. Boxhead will be able to tell you for certain how the connections go i.e where the filter fits in etc. Cheers |
Gav,
I have the stock fuel pump in the tank as supplied by GM. Mine is a simple setup where by fuel comes from tank pump and is parallel with the fuel regulator before it passes through filter then to the rails. The regulator has a port to send excess fuel to the return line of the fuel tank. I also have all that other GM (pollution stuff) which is mounted on the fuel filler hose which incorp. the carbon canister & return fuel line routing. Got details if you need them. I have not experience any fuel shortages or hunting when pushing it at winton so I guess it works fine:confused: Leeroy. |
Have you guys got any pics of the stock fuel system?

Hi Gav,
The line from the pump goes out to the filter. The other end of the filter has a tee type fitting which returns to the tank and also to the fuel rail. The third line goes to the canister as Mike mentioned. Hope these pics are what you are after. (Hope they appear, if not they are in my gallery.)
