Newbie
Hi all.
Another dang newbie thread!!!! After many years of driving around in crap cars, Im finally at the stage in my life when I can enjoy driving decent cars. I am not a Ford or Holden man, either are good, I just pick the best at the time. I currently drive a HSV Clubsport, but....the Cobra is where my heart lies. When the lease is up, I intend to flick the clubby, buy a cheap Mon to Fri car, and fulfill my dream of buying a Cobra for weekends. At this stage it will be a LS1 version. Is there a for sale section on this forum? If not, where is the best place to look? Anyway thats it for now...I will bury my head in the search button and probably come up for air in about 2 weeks.. LS1 powered cars do not come up often, as they are a relatively new option in the Cobra world. The best way to find a car is the usuall magazines or your local Cobra Club. Cheers, Ben |

You could also look at carpoint and carsales both on the net. There are a bunch of cars there, many of which haven't moved in a long time. I'm sure some of these owners might move on an offer, dependant on urgency of need to sell. Happy researching! |

Haven't seen any LS1 powered Cobras for sale yet. There are a lot still in construction and a growing number of completed ones on the road. I reckon most of their owners will be so happy with them that they will be reluctant to sell. :3DSMILE: Cheers |

One of the reasons that my wife let me play with Cobras is that you tend to maintain a reasonable resale value on the car.
If you do not go crazy there is a good chance you will not throw much money away, unlike most other cars / boats / toys. Cheers, Ben |

I agree Bryan. It seems recently that the price of cobras have actually gone up a bit. A few years ago there were always a few around the 40 grand make whereas most of them are above 50 or so now. This has probably got something to do with the increase in the cost of building one. It would be nice to sell and make a tidy profit, but that profit would soon be spent on a new cobra anyway.

From my experience in QLD, Cobra's sell for more than the sum of their parts. So if you build a Cobra yourself, you can generally at a minimum get your money back if you sell, even years later. Forget about getting your labour back, it's definitely a labour of love.
Professionally built Cobra's with labour charge etc, tend to sell for less than total cost to build them. It's easier to get your money back at the lower end of the scale. If you go over the top with the build, it will be harder to get your money back. Cheap Cobra's are easy to sell, expensive ones are a lot more difficult to sell. Also if you style your Cobra so that it has a limited audience, that will hurt resale value. There are always exceptions to the rule. One thing I keep in mind is that there are always a limited number of Cobra enthusiasts. There are plenty of people with means and enthusiasm for owning a Cobra, but in the higher price ranges there are also plenty of other nice sports cars to purchase. You would expect carby based cars to be increasing in value as they can no longer be approved. This doesn't seem to be the case...yet. Now don't even get me started on GT40 values... |
