Vintage Wheels Inc, anybody in Oz got them?
Hi guys,
I am very interested in buying a set of 17inch knock offs from Vintage Wheels Inc. Just wondering if anyone over here has bought a set and what they think of them, eg: fitment, strength, finish etc!! I will also have a set of 15 inch Trigo's for sale shortly if anyone is interested. Andy. |
Andy...are the 15" trigo's knock off's and what widths.?
I have a set of trigo adaptors already. Cheers |
I got a set of 17's a while ago (while the dollar was pretty strong). They are a very high quality wheel and the adapters look quite sturdy.
Bob Lacey was very good to deal with and packed them quite well for the journey too. I'm very happy with them, of course I'll be happier when I get some rubber and they start turning. I would be careful with the measurements listed on the website though. My wheels had more front spacing than I was expecting, so I had to narrow the rear-end to fit them (which will help with my "other" wheels anyway). I can provide you with any measurements that you may require. I only took one picture and this is it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ntagewheel.jpg |
Don Pilling at Snake Bite deals in Vintage Wheels. I've seen a few 17" sets in the flesh. As above, they are a work of art, very, very nicely finished. Noticeably better finish than oz versions. But noticably better price.

i bought some gear off vin/wheels, very good stuff i must say,i may be wrong , but the 17" wheels on the superformance is actualy a VINTAGE wheel ,find current photos of C.T.C.'s silver cobra and you will see how they look . Come on correct me if im wrong you politicaly correct zealots! only joking. |
By the way, these wheels were roughly the same price as OZ wheels when you consider frieght to your door. I did get stung by AQIS though and had to pay $160 quarantine inspection fee...
The AQIS fee pushed the price just over $3000. |
Still they are a bloody good looking wheel , better than anything out of the land of oz. more apropriate. more in keeping with the 60's

Thanks for the replies guys! Barry, I think your car is on their website. (you probably already new that). I will try Don Pilling and see what sort of price we are looking at over here, but the $3100.00 from the states sounded about the same as what I had workrd out.

Rebel, yes they are knock offs. Stamped COBRA 2, MADE IN USA. 6 lug holes in the back. Pretty sure they are the same as the Robnell wheels. I bought them second hand and have had them professionally polished and the centres have been professionally paint stripped ready for your choice of colour. There are no gutter scrapes or gouges on the wheels and the sizes are, rear:9.5 inch, front 7.5 inch. They are in excellent condition, only selling so I can move to 17's for bigger brakes all round. Send me a message if you are interested.

Andy, thanks for the reply but my hubs are 5 pin.

Iva,
The wheels on the standard SPF are WAW, made for SFP in South Africa I believe. The 17's on two of the SPF's in Melbourne are sourced locally in Melbourne, I can find out where if you need to know. The other SPF in Sydney has 17" Vintage Wheels and I think Richard is really happy with them. I have two sets of 15's, the original WAW wheels with track rubber and Trigo's with street rubber. I have been thinking about 17's from Vintage to leverage technology for track times. Cameron |

Plums, I can see why your so keen to get rubber onto those wheels, they look magnificant!

Yes, Vintage Wheels are very good. Bob Lacey will also fit tyres of your choice! I had my Vintage 17's fitted with Michelin Pilot Cup Sports. Any good? Ask me after the Nationals!
