Walnut Dashboard
Gentlemen,
I am thinking about the posibility of manufacturing a walnut dashboard to fit to my car. Has anyone purchased or made one and fitted to there car. Ragards, Troy |
I have one in my Cobra I will try and find some pics
|
I watch with interest as the boss has me heading down the wooden dash path.
If you get any manufacturing instructions Troy ohhhhhhhhhhhh let us in on them, I may have to make my own. Cheers Steve |
Try Walnut veneer

Hi All,
I bought a sheet of genuine Walnut veneer from a local specialist woodworking shop (for $19.00) and glued it to the standard RMC aluminium dash. It has had several coats of clear laquer and looks really good, the veneer is about 1.5mm thick. The only tricky part was cutting out the glovebox. Cheers Ross |

Troy,
Check this out: http://www.ffcobra.com/ubb/ultimateb...14.html#000001 Burled walnut may be a consideration. Cheers! Dave |
Not walnut, but we did a mahogony dash on the old blue cobra.
Matched it with mahogony steering wheel, gear stick knob and handbrake handle, indicator knob etc etc. We used a solid piece of mahogony so we could recess the gauges into it. The glove box lid is actually cut out of the different piece of wood, it was a big hassle, as we had to find a piece that had the same matching grain & figure(swirl). Doing it again we would probably get more routing done to give it more features. It was stained to match the steering wheel. We actually did it lighter as UV exposure darkens the timber. After 6 months it matched perfectly and stayed that way. Had 2 pac clear on top, same as used on the car. In this photo the dash looks a little different in colour, but with the same light, everthing still matches, even today. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...MG_Medium_.JPG |
The only wood in a Cobra should be between yer legs.

Thanks for the feedback.
I like the look you got from your car 400TT. I think the older plain dash style opposed to the modern look looks great with the blue. Troy |
400TT, could you let me know what the blue is called? Does it look that good in real life. I think it looks awesome!
Regards. |
