The VY series had a claimed 235kW and VYII had 245kW (this only applies to SS variants, as the Berlina and Calais had more restrictive exhausts).

In my experience, if you strapped a dead stock VY SS to the rollers it would make around 185kW's, where a VYII SS would only make a max of 180 (usually high 170's). The VYII runs HEAPS richer at WOT which kills power. I know it doesn't make sense but I have seen it time and time again.

The VYII does have a different cam profile to the VY engines (though only slightly). The programs for each are similar, but there are some differences. Most VYII programs don't have the lean cruise function enabled (though some do), they are much richer in PE mode (power enrichment), and the VE tables are quite different.

When either of these models is fitted with a decent exhaust and some intake mods, MAFLess tuned they will make pretty much the same power.

Guess thats called false advertising :D

Just to clarify, the 3 year grace period in NSW for ADR 79/00 engines should take us up to the end of 2008 (shouldnt it?), which is 3 years since the new rules came in on 01/01/06.
