Paintjob is finished...

The last few weeks have been spent on the body. My fingerprints are slowly coming back after countless hours blocking back my crappy painting skills.

The final finish might look good in the photo's, but it's actually pretty poor!!! The topcoat is so bloody hard to get on, I ended up with more runs than Don Bradman....

I think I'll call it a distance paintjob...... it looks great from a distance!

I used a black 2K high-build primer with a 2K direct gloss high opacity black topcoat.

Total cost was only $525, this was for all materials needed for the job.

I'm man enough to admit that I SUCK as a spray painter, but I still had fun and learnt lots along the way...... At least now when I take it to a pro I have saved a bucket of money on the prep work and primer!

Wheel it out into the sun so we can see the color better.
I dont mind how good or bad your paint skills are, atleast ya had a go, and you can allways block it back with 1500 then 2000 grit wet and dry them buff it out.

For the amount you have paid, if you're not happy do it again!!
Looks pretty good from the pics though.
The other thing to think about is once it is on the road it may settle and crack in spots anyway.
The only thing I would do would be to make sure you are happy with the underbody and engine bay as the rest can be reworked once the car is together.

Yep, I agree with both Box and Gav.

You have painted it in a short period and it may settle a little over time.

Do what Gav suggested and make sure the engine bay/under car areas are to your liking. You can always redo the exterior.

However, you may be surprised that once it hardens up and you color sand it with 1500/2000 and give it a cut and polish it may well come up to your liking.

Looks good Bobby, very inspiring.

Been thinking about squirting my own paint on as well. $6000+ for a pro job would pay for a lot of stuff ups and resprays at home. In the end do I really want a show class paint job or something I won't cry about if it gets stone chips?

I know I'm not an Aussie (Yanks can post here, right?) but I think it looks really good! The image reflection of your garage door opener and the bricks is very clear and as already has been said, sanding and polishing will help a lot.
I've seen so-called professional paint jobs that look like they were applied with a sock! Yours is far better.

Thanks for the kind words and motivation guys, it really does help.

I think I'm going to sand it back and start again next week. It only takes a day to sand ready for paint again. I'm in the middle of making the extractors, so when I've finished them I'll get onto it.

If I stuff it up again I'm just going to live with it.... At least it'll look good as I drive past!!!

I've been thinking and re-thinking about painting mine at home, I did the primer a year ago so guess its cured. This sure helped me with the confidence to do it myself. We always looked for ones that passed the 50/50 test for driven cars....looks good at 50 feet away at 50 mph... yours is way better than that....congrats on the home effort.
