Welcome to the forum. Yes the club metings would be an ideal way to meet owners etc. Mmm perhaps I should get to them more often..:3DSMILE: |
Peterp,
Up here in QLD the most popular choice of build is a DRB or Harrison, whilst in VIC it seems to be a Classic Revival (certainly by this forum). Obviously others are around, but by using one which is popular most of the problems you encounter have been well documented (This Forum is good for exactly that - just search on a topic and you should find it pretty easily) Now if its a built car you are looking for, well don't be fooled by just good looks alone as it is the same with any kit car, what lurks beneath is all so more important. Check electrics thoroughly as if it then presents a problem you have little reference material to trace the fault, even less room to find the fault under the dash whilst laid upside down with your legs hanging off the roll bar / hoops (been there done that!!) Check for other quality of build items such as engine components, suspension, fuel and brake lines etc etc etc. as well as the general look of detail items. Remember these cars are fibreglass and as such are prone to loose nuts due to vibration. It is so so easy to buy on emotional impulse only to find that 3 months down the track you are spending heaps to fix it and often more importantly trying to find the right person who can fix it whilst taking good care of your baby. Oh and good luck. Because at the end of the day when you are driving down the road with the biggest smile on your face it all seemed worth it:D |
Hey PCC, congratulations on the big 1,000!
|
At the end of the day I think that you pay for what you get, it also has to suit your needs, either a full on track star or a nice streetable machine. Have a budget in mind if you build I think that you can double it!!. Don't worry even the most sedate street crusier will still give most cars a run for their money. It will also depend on how good you are with repairing or maintaining the vehicle. Speak to as many people as you can, including Python in South Melb, after that you will propably make up your mind!!!

thanks for the advice guys,I'll be at the meeting.

In Melbourne you have a couple of choices if you want to build. Python (as mentioned by Kanga) RCM - This kit is produced by Laurie Bongailas and there are about 90 in existance. Lauire is usually at the meeting. Make sure you get to talk to him. If you want more details about RCM's (I've got one) then PM me. |
Thanks Blair,
Amazing - I don't feel any older!! |
PCC
Is that a 1,000 before or after the shutdown of the system. I know a few people lost 100's of 'Posts'...:3DSMILE: Good to see you on here....%/ |
I must admit it wasn't until Blair had told me that I had realised how much dribble I have contributed to the site.
Obviously not as much as you Bern:LOL:  |
Peterp,
Welcome to the mad house:LOL:    I will be at the meeting on Thursday, come and say hello..... STIFFY |
DRB owners do not DRIBBLE PCC! Rather DRB owners are the backbone of the Australian part of Club Cobra and every word which they 'type' is a calculated and informed point of view.
Thus all others on here aspire to be like you. As for Bernie and his 3500 posts. That man has courage! 3445 of the 3500 (I counted) of his posts are simply replying to other members posts, which insinuate that he only drives around in little red cars with big yellow arches. |
Hey Blair,
**) I've been busy in the little red MCVAN but also have been out in the Cobra. Just over 1500 k's (900 miles) in the Cobra since Friday - last three days. **).. Went to Melbourne and then down to Queenscliff to join Jason and Garrett at the 'World of Cars". After for good measure, I drove back to Melbourne following Jason and a Mustang GT350 and then over to Brighton beach to have a coffee with Jason and then returned to Geelong. Monday saw me head up to McDonald Brothers racing. **) .. guess I've been out in it. |
