USA T5 into DRB - clutch cable question
 
Hi all,

After a couple of years in the wilderness I am back into the build of my DRB. In the last 2 years I managed to fit my wipers :) .

I am looking at putting a T5 behind my 302, however the only T5's easily available are out of the states so the clutch is on the passenger side, starter on the drivers.

Has anyone done this before, I am worried it will be too tight for the clutch cable trying to route it clear of exhausts and other such obstacles. My DRB is the Torana based car.

Any help appreciated.

Dan, don't worry mate, nearly all the DRB's in Aus fitted with T5's use US sourced units. And I expect a lot have cable clutches.

Been a long time since we last sighted the bottom of our old Torana based DRB, but we ran a US T5 and ran the clutch cable forward from fork and looped it over to the drivers side where the sump humps up. From memory we just used standard Ford clutch cable. From memory it was a very quick and easy job. And result was a fantastic feeling clutch, not too heavy etc.

Can't remember specifically about the exhaust, but we had shorty headers made, so no problems with those.

I concur with Craig on this one. I have put a few photos in my gallery of my Australian clutch cable on a US 302, with clutch release on the left. I have also included a copy of the part numbers for the cable, clevis and bushes.

As fas as exhaust goes - I had mine made with the cable in place so as to ensure clearances - no dramas whatsoever.

Definitely an easier job in a Harrison as they even provide you with the top mount for cable(if you are fitting 302w & T5 combination).

Craig,

Did you use the modified Torana clutch pedal ? Where abouts did the cable enter into the drivers cabin - in the tunnel, up through the floor ?

Looking at GeoF's photos his cable enters through the firewall, but there is no room on the drb due to the brake booster.

Yep, just shortened a Torana clutch pedal as per manual.

Can't remember where the clutch cable entered now, we would have just followed the instructions in the manual. Just had a look, no other photos I have here help with where it went.
