Waterpump issue - ED Falcon 5.0

Hi all,
My engine is apparently from a ED Falcon and runs the reverse rotation water pump due to the pulley system used. Since I will be running no A/C or power steering I thought I would use a standard rotation water pump and be done. However, there does not appear to be a standard rotation water pump available for this year of engine. So what are my options ? Do I need something like this: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...+115&x=52&y=11 Anyone know if a standard rotation water pump is available ? There is no pump listed in the Ford Racing Parts Catalog that is standard rotation - only the OEM pump M-8501-D50 (from the photo shown looks the same as what I have). You must change the front cover to that of late 60's or 70's and use the respective water pump. They were originally intended to use a V belt but can be converted to a sepentine type by using the necessary pulleys.

I ordered the alternator kit from replicaparts.com and kept the reverse rotation water pump.All you need to get is a fan belt that is a metre long(Bosch 6pk1000).The alternator kit was $75.00us.Not much contact on the pulley but 3000kms and no slippage at all.Saves alot of space not having the serpentine pulleys there. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._Fords_025.jpg Cheers Brett |
Idler pulley
Hi Brett,
I originally run the belt like you have, however i did find slippage a problem. I added an idler pulley on the opposite side to your alternator, so the belt now wrapped 50% of the waterpump pulley. The idler was about $20 and then just fab up a bracket. Phil |

I kept the pulleys from the original setup in case but at the moment there doesn't seem to be any slippage so time will tell. Dan, Replicaparts.com also have a standard rotation water pump kit as well to fit the 5l motor. Cheers Brett |
The standard rotation water pump at replicaparts.com is slightly different to my one and does not fit, I have tried one of these units. Have a look at the water inlet, mine has a bolt hole either side. It looks like I have something similar to a 94-95 Mustang, not the more common 86 - 93.

Like PhilM I have set up my tensioner on passenger side on an AU version. Plenty of wrap and adjustability. Mounted fabricated support off three points previously used on std ford cast fitting that was unsuitable for modification. Have attached a pics showing my fitting. Attachment 12093 Can't actually recall what car the tensioner came off but find what you want first and fabricate up to it. Cheers |
The pumps fitted to australian engines are unique to here, so the american pumps of either direction wont fit your timing cover.
You will need to do a 3 bolt timing cover swap as mentioned above if you want to run the older type pumps. The aussie pumps are shorter than the american ones which may be an advantage in some kits |
water pump
yes there is a standard rotation pump w/4 bolts in the pulley. like you have in the picture i believe it to be a pump a of 1987 mercury w/302 or 351 .look in the march pulley infomation if not call march pulley they have the info.if i call i will try to supply info later to day. no need to change the timing chain cover. i believe # fms-m-8501-e351s or fms-8501-g351 from summit to be what you are looking for. look close a the pulley on this pumps and you will see about 8 hole for diffrent application . hope this helps
