LS1 Accelerator
Guys,
I now have my 2005 LS1 engine installed, but I am not sure if I should stick with the fly by wire throttle or convert back to a cable set up. It seems to me that it might not be too easy to get the electrics on the newer models working without a lot of work. I already have the loom, computer, pedal assembly and BCM. Any thoughts from the darkside? Ben |
Ben,
Ian is currently building a turnkey Cobra with and LS2 and fly by wire accelerator. He has modified the accelerator asembly so it mounts in the foot well nicely.I think he is also making up a special pedal....might be worth a chat . Not sure if you can go mechanical TB as the loom/ecu is specific the the new TB arrangement. Not sure what Peter has done but he is faced with same isue Regards, Phil:) |
Thanks Phil,
I might be able to swap over the loom etc., so it will not cost much. Ben |
Ben,
You might have to research this a bit more. I think the later model engines could have a few sensors in different locations. I am sure the guys at Castle Hill can sort it out for you. Did they finish off the Exhaust system OK? Phil:) |
Still at it Phil.
It appears that the ceramic coating companies have a long lead time in December - most likely due to the volume of work before the Summernats. Ben |
Have you driven a Fly-by-wire car before ? I have just bought a car with such a throttle set up. My last car was a dinosaur...about 28 years old. I am enjoying my new "techno car" immensely, but there just doesn't seem to be that "Feel" on throttle response. It's like a fart...it happens and the stink is smelt after you have left ! My Cobra has a dinosaur engine 351 C that runs on fart gas and the response is "there"!
Ceramic coatings are not to anyones advantage unless you are chasing parts of a second....according to HOT ROD magazine tests (Nov 06) but headers are definately the way to go. I build a 351 mustang, 71 , and the engine bay temps were 49+ with bare metal headers...after coating inside & outside the new headers the temps were down to 38 - 40. Best money spent. HPC did the job. Smithy |
Ben I have a fly by wire throttle as well on my motor as far as I can understand , side show Bob thinks we should keep them and changing in a $$$$$$ venture.

Slowie,
Are you getting Sideshow to do all of the wiring, or just the tricky bits? It sounds like you will get there before me, so I should not have any troubles! Ben |
you canot interchange fly by wire stuff with non fly by wire
the ecus look the same but internally are different looms are different throttle bodies are different you cannot run mechanical throttle on a fly by wire ecu system as the ecu will shut down as soon as there is any probs with the fly by wire im slowly organising afew hard to get parts for when doin these enignes even the later 6lt engines make it hard to interchange stuff only stuff u can change is the bare manifold and injectors but then u have to get wiring modified its best to just buy a compete set and stick with it otherwise u will have headaches and need to chase up more parts |
Gday Sideshow.
Good to see you on here. I will be giving you a call in a few days to start on my engine loom. Cheers, Ben |
Sam at Sams Performance tell me that the fly by wire TB and manifolds are a lot better than the old style (sorry Phil).
The are bugger and flow a lot better. |
Sideshow,
I see that you did the wiring on Paul Bennett's car in Street Machine. Been involved in many other big dollar cars? Ben |
yer that hot rod was a massive job
next time ill know to charge more hehehe i have wired up 6 or more cobras so far i wired up the eleanor mustang that was built in australia and am in process of doin an aussie ford5.6 into a 66 fastback i havnt got many popularity in the drag or hotrod scene yet mainly due to they have their own person who does things but ive sen many poorly wired up hotrods when u look under dash hehehe anyway most my uncome is from wiriing jap import engines and conversions slowly doin more aussie engines too |
