Location
Thanks Stephen and Bobby(Plums),
I'm located in Perth about 20 minutes away from Plums. Gotta take you up on the invite Plums and have a look at where you're at. Talk about getting time to spend on the cobra, I have a wife, 2 young kids and getting a new house built. Daylight savings has helped, just gotta make sure the paint I use isn't the type that fades  but the new house will have a triple garage, one just for the little cobra.:D Stephen, where did you get the 5L from? They seem to be like hens teeth when talking to the ford wreckers here in Perth. I'm looking for a complete unit with wiring, computer etc preferably from an XR8 around 96/97. |
auscobra very nice.
I have an RMC so I feel our cars are sorta related. Looking great..red ones are faster  |

Mine is from a 2002 XR8, obviously later model because of the 220kw, and if you were really lucky and got a T3 347? stroker then you'd have lots of fun. However with tyranny of distance and all that, I reckon Perth would be starved of such cars. Mid 90's was E series? and about 185 kW I think. It would pay to get a whole car and use as much as possible. Ask Bobby about Ken, he lives near me, is building his 2nd GF and bought a 2004 SS ute to use. Despite going the dark side he is using as much of the donor car as possible and has used mtr/gbox, wiring, compters steering and combi switches, fuel tank!!, much of the cooling plumbing has just fitted straight in, pedal assemblies I think and has even remodelled the heater fan box to use the std heater. He is a marvel, 2nd cobra build with no cobra contact , until me then Bobby, and he is expecting and will just plug and play. I can't recall what he said the donor cost him, but selling off the unwanted items has brought his real expenditure for the donor down to around the $3K mark. Just my eng/box with eng wiring and computer cost about $5K so he's done real well and it would be the way I would go 2nd time around. Perhaps you can research and buy via Fowles etc and the auctions and pay for transport to Perth. Maybe the cheapest option, else buy a going banger XR8 and scrap it for your bits! It does depend on how much capital you have to start with. A donor and bare kit is a fair initial outlay! Let us know which way you head. Cheers |

There are a few T3's over in WA. All you've gotta do is wait for one to be a writeoff :( Seriously, T3's have come up several times at the wreckers. Check out this site: http://www.fordforums.com.au/ One of the sponsors is a wrecker and often posts new arrivals directly on their Forum. That's how I got mine. Only problem is you need to check it all the time. Just check with your engineer which engines are ok to use in your state. |
Check out Pickles Auctions
Hi Auscobra,
Have a look at http://www.pickles.com.au/auctiontt.html and check the auction of damaged vehicles in Perth, it's on every week. There is an XR8 listed for the auction next week, it's worth going down to seee what price the go for. I went several times and almost bought an XR8 ute for $2,500. Good luck Ross |
