Finally
Well finally bit the bullet and ordered a Harrison Cobra :) now the long wait for her to come but in the mean time I will have 1001 question for you guys to help me with. At this stage I am putting a 4.6L supercharged 2003 Cobra motor and a T56 box in and using the new Harrison Commodore rear end. My first question is wheels I see some are using knockoff wheels are these legal in Qld.

Congrats on taking the first big step! I think I'll be going with the Harrison as well. Just a question though, does that engine combination meet Euro 3 spec, as required here in Victoria (and elsewhere?)? If that's the case it might be cheaper for me than going with the new LS2 which looks like being $10,000+.

Congrats greg.
Yep, you are fine to use knock-off wheels. Technically you should make sure the spinners are inside the wheel/tyre, which you won't have a problem with on that Harrison. Really is the best way to go on a Cobra. Another Harrison with that custom fabricated independent rear. Really the trick if you want deep dish, also makes it possible to use those great US knock-off wheels. That supercharged 4.6 is a sweet choice, especially if you are a QLDer. Sorry, Sambo, from what I have heard they are not compliant for you. |
Thanks Graig where did you get your wheels from?
|
Hoorah another 4.6 Quad cam! Which one are you going to go for: The 2003 Terminator 4.6 with the factory eaton charger and iron block with forged internals or are you going to go the 2001 NA Aluminium block with ****ty rods and pistons (which you have to change for big boost)and bolt on your own choice of blower.
Either way 2nd hand low mileage terminator engines are on ebay fairly often and if I wish I knew about them before I bought my engine and parts. Good luck! |
Hi Blair got the 2003 Terminator 4.6 with the factory eaton charger and iron block with forged internals all ready sitting in my shed:) with six speed box. looking at these cams for it as well:MECOOL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhPZB7cpQzw

Congratulations Greg and well done. Hope we can help you with your build as there's plenty of Harrison and a fair bit of modular motor experience on here.
Cheers |
Thanks Mike I am sure I will be asking you for help at some stage.

Nice choice of engine even if your 'nic' belongs to the opposition! The forged internals of the 03 Cobra are great. The standard manley rods and forged pistons seem to take the boost really well. With a compression ratio 0f 8.5:1 it ain't hard to wind her up. I have heaps of information on your engine if yo want it. Be aware that I wish I never found it.
Check out Sergio's site. You'll be very interested! www.cobra4me.com Places to go to hot that engine up: http://www.seanhylandmotorsports.com http://www.modularpowerhouse.com http://www.livernoismotorsports.com http://www.kennebell.net |
Congratulations on your choice of engine. They're an awesome engine with plenty of potential. I have one in mine, unfortunately I finished mine back in 2003 so I didn't have the option on going with the Terminator engine, but trust me it has plenty of top end and it loves to rev. I am just about to fit a supercharger to it in the next few months but keep the boost limited to about 8 - 9 psi - for now. When money allows I'll step up the internals and boost. As Blair mentioned if you need any help with the engine just yell out. I have all the electrical pinouts and install manuals for the stock computer, all be it for the earlier engine. the differences electrically should be minimal. There are a few tricks though to running the standard Ford unit.

Thanks Blair yeh have a 2001 HSV GTS as well with a PWR blower cam ect. What computer are you useing on your 4.6?
|
HHmm, we are lucky we are both building Cobras otherwise we would be ENEMYS! BA Pursuit ute here with a Vortech and some other work here.
I am using an Autronic SM4 on my Cobra. Actually I forgot to give you the most important link concerning Cobras & 4.6 modular engines. www.ffcobra.com Then find the 4.6 roadster forums there. There is a dedicated modular section with plenty of info. Plenty of wiring diets that you may want to look into! |
Thanks Blair got onto someone who has wiring loom was thinking of using Autronic SM4 but was told the original computer with moded chip was the way to go???
|
To legally pass engineering (emission laws) and register your Cobra you have to have the ECU which originally came with the motor from the factory unless you want to pay for all emission tests. Search the forum on this subject and you will find out more then I can tell you.
|
Peter from DRB does the Autronic SM4 on his Cobras and GT40's?? Maybe he has done the emission tests.
|
That is who did mine! DRB Sportscars I mean. I also actually know the fella who is the wholesaler for Autronic. He lives in Cairns. Ray Hall Turbo Charging!
