Ls1
Guys,
I am currently on the lookout for a LS1 or an LS2 and came across this one today."Gen III 5.7l V8. We have complete less flywheel and clutch. VY SS Ute Oct 02 with 78000kms. This is VY specifications that is the same as 2003. The Holden Tech 2 Diagnostic Machine recognises as 2003 not 2002. Cost $5000.00" My question is, "Would the claim that it recognises it as a 2003 model be correct? And do you think this is a fair price for an LS1? I guess I would have to pay more for a Chev motor than a Ford motor though... Any help would be appreciated Mick |
Mick,
Cant help on diagnostic advice but I think the price is a bit high for a motor with that manyK's. With 78k's on it it will probably need a freshen up in the ring dept and while you are at it you would need to change the big end and main bolts to ARP , add a double row timing chain and blue print the oil pump. Get a Textralia clutch and you have a pretty good set up especially in a Harrison......if I was doing it all again it would be a Harrison with an LS2 If you want more info on LS1/LS2 have a look at LS1.com.au Phil:) |
Have you talked to Warwick about the US engines he can source. Come with already stripped down wiring harness, complete with T56 box, ecu etc. I know he is bringing one in at the moment. Pricing is very, very competitive.
Oops, just remembered, I think you already have sourced wiring harness & box. Still might be worth enquiring about engine only. |
Check the engine number, it will start with VF03xxxxxxxx if it's a 2003, if it's a 2002 it'll be VF02xxxxxxxx. If it's a VY it will be VF03xxxxxxxx even if the car is a 2002.
When checked with TECH2 (or any tuning software), ALL VY variants - regardless of when they were plated - will come up as 2003. ALL VYII will be 2004 etc. etc. While it is true, they just put the TECH2 comment in there to entice customers. Generally, the following applies to Australian LS1's: Any VTIII is 2000, Any VX is 2001, Any VXII is 2002, Any VY is 2003, Any VYII is 2004, Any VZ is 2005, As for VE's, I have no idea.... As Phil said, it seems a little pricey to me, I think you could do better. If you are going to get an engine from the US, make sure it's an LS6 (later version of LS1). |
thanks guys
Plums, When I do get a Dark Side power source, are you the man to go to for programming the computer??? |
I've tuned quite a few Darkside powered Cobra's! I do a pretty good deal for my Cobra brethren. :) Just post the PCM to me, and a few days later you'll have it back.
If you just want the car to run, ie. keep the standard program, I can just disable VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System), modify the Thermo fan temps and change diff ratio settings. VATS must be disabled if you want the car to run. |
Give Holdun Spares in Dandenong a try (yes thats how it is spelt).
I bought my engine(35000km), trans, loom, computer with vat removed and all accessories for $5700. Good guys to deal with too. |
I agree with the other guys, it looks a bit pricey.
If you are prepared to wait you will get a beeter deal. Ben |
