What is the best donor car for parts, please help
**) What would any one recommend to be the best donor car to pinch parts for my cobra? Its a g-force shell to suit a crown chassis, but my chassis is fully rebuilt and strengthened. Can anyone help on what should be my major donor car or could help me find a book,cd,dvd on what people have used as donor parts to build there kit cobra's

Can a strengthened crown chassis be used or not?
:confused: I have just been told a strengthened crown chassis can not be used! I find this hard to believe as if you strengthen any chassis enough, it will handle anything. I understand the crown running gear wouldn't handle the power or modifications, but a strengthened chassis. Surely! Please let me know if this is so or not. Otherwise i have wasted many hours on this modified chassis. I have build trucks, a 400 hp speed boat, a hydraulic spray truck, deep rippers and more. I have never had anything twist or bend with everything i have built and I can’t see if I modify this crown chassis it would be any different. Thank you for any input you may be able to tell me.:confused:

Crown Chassis MS-65/85 what ever you have can be done, so DONT listen to the bullsh*t that people say, especially when they obviously haven’t a clue what their on about!!! EG: I have built MS-65 chassis with power steering, I have just had it over the pits November 2006 & passed 1st time, its still in a raw unfinished state but it is registered as a normal car, and I’ve been driving it to work just about every day, clocked up 7600km in 4 months on the road. Mine was built in '96: Jag XKE suspension, rear end and steering parts. A considerable amount of modifications to make it stand up to a little more oomph than the Jag motor put out. Works great now. But really good, used XKE donors might be getting a little rare now... :o Rich

Not so sure about the crown chassis but as an example for my Mk1 G-Force I have Jag suspension F/R, commodore rack, ford eng/box, mx5 seats, gemini handbrake, holden accel pedal & rearview mirror, aftermarket thermo fan, sigma brake booster/ford master.
So you can see they are a hybrid. Fellow near me has used a significant amount of an ss commodore VX? in his mk1 GF through sheer luck of fitment or sheer modification. But I reckon his efforts rate very highly in getting the most out of the wreck he used. Again would also suggest contacting Rob at GF for some guidance. Cheers |
Ken's using a VY SS Ute as the donor and doing a damn fine job too.
It's a shame he doesn't get on here because he is doing some great things. I reckon his car (G-Force, LS1, 6spd) will be on the road for under $35k.... |
VY there you go but Plum's is right. I think after selling off what he can't remodel Ken's wreck has cost him only about $4 -5K I think. A very very good deal even just for the motor and g/box, let alone all the other bits he's used including all wiring!! Luck B.
Ken got his kit mid last year I think and is just about to start it in anger in the next week or two. Admittedly he is now retired and built his 1st GF but that's not a bad effort. His finishing hasn't got that Nth degree of an Aussie Mike but it is dam clean, and that for a bloke that has had no contact with out local club or the forum for that matter! He has however built and flown his own sports special aeroplane (akin to a Pitts special) so he is full of good tips for epoxy paints, use of aluminium, specialised screw/bolt attachments and all those other specialised aeronautical tricks of the trade. Might have to do an Aussie Mike with a video camera of his start up. I'm sure you will get a similar grin. How did you transfer to the computer Mike? Can I ask you a personal question about G-Force if thats ok. My father inlaw bought the shell from G-Force and cant find any paper work and cant even remember what he had organised as straight after he bought the shell he went on and decided to build a 36 ford ute (which may i say looks brilliant) Do you think that Rob Grave at G-Force sports will give me any help even though i am second generation to the shell. Thanks for any input.

I think you'll find that any business man worth his salt will be willing to assist where he can to get his product out on the street. Best bet is to call Rob and see what he can do. He'll soon be able to tell if the shell isn't one of his own creations. :)

Anyway I thought the crown chassis variants were produced by GF so it would be a match anyway! Cheers |
