Authentic looking mirrors?

I'm considering buying these bullet mirrors off eBay for $44 each.

Can anyone tell me whether these would be considered original looking mirrors? Any other thoughts/comments would be appreciated - they just seem too cheap to me!

Thanks,
Paul

I had those - sold them, then I got the equvalent in TEX (Polished Stainless Steel) - much better quality and can be obtained from the UK for a comparable price to these (including shipping) - then I sold those and bought Raydot (replicas) - which attach to the windscreen from finishline. They seem a decent mirror - not 100% sure on the quality, they are pretty light weight, but look pretty close to a real one. They are tiny though!

I think its been mentioned a few times before but the bullet mirrors unless they have the extended base (which doesnt look that great IMHO) find it hard to see over the rear wheel arches.

Cheers.

I have had a pair of these on an E Type Jag for a number of years. Mine came with the car. They are passable but not of the highest quality. As the previous poster pointed out, they don't sit very high.

My biggest complaint is that they are hard to adjust.

Paul,

The car mounted mirrors aren't ideal for vision. In fact the passenger side is useless!!!

The window mounted one's are a better idea, but not sure if you can mount them if you have wing dings on.

I find with chrome / stainless products the cheaper they are the quality is generally crap.

You generally pay for what you get%/

I agree with all above. I had the finishline ones and never used them they are cheap.

Get them from Don Pilling ph.0755290877 as the quality is #1 and they are the extended versions you will need.

Vision is still average but they look the part. Think the Raydots are the go.

So its either body mounted mirrors that serve little/no purpose or window mounted mirrors that prevent the use of wing dings! Hmmm.

Does anyone have pictures in their gallery of the window mounted mirrors?

Ah the side post brackets - pretty neat and it avoids drilling holes in the body.

Thanks for the info lads. I wish Don Pilling had a website though!

HI Sambo

Look at page 2 of roll cage thread there are Ford style swan neck mirrors mounted on the windscreen support with wind "wings".

sambo 04-02-2007 09:35 PM

Well spotted mate, thanks! Does the passenger side have one? It's hard to tell.

Chrome 04-02-2007 09:40 PM

Sambo

Yes it does. Not sure how authentic they are, but you can see very well out of both!

PCC 04-02-2007 09:59 PM

Paul,

I was thinking of the traditional Raydot window mounted type in reference to the wing dings. Pretty sure they won't fit with wing dings.

Obviously something less traditional will work.

I find that when on the road you tend to turn your head before maneouvering left or right after I've checked your main mirror. Its just something you get used to.

Tenrocca 04-02-2007 10:04 PM

You can mount the raydots on the brackets and retain the wings:

The brackets and mirrors on Stephs car I believe are the ones from finishline that I have as well.

www.the-roadster-factory.com HAC1528

If you want the fender mount mirror, use:

HAC1528 Bullet Door Mirror, British Leyland type List Price $89.95

High quality chrome and has a 4 1/2" OD mirror. Most of the others are 3 1/2" or less and can be used to see 3/4 of a lane behind you at most. The larger one will let you see 1 1/2 lanes... not great, but vastly better than the small one.

With today's traffic you need all the help you can get!

I prefer the windshield mount style... is a large lens available???
