I live in a very little town and there are more SUM's here per captia then anywhere (Sport utility mower's) Mow you lawn with a 25 hp tractor. Well we have (atleast I have) found that a name is just a name.Back in the old days (1956) ford used the word ThunderBird to the max.All 4v engines had it on there valve covers.I think it means something down under ,rather then just a sales pitch.Which I still feel was dishonest or deceetful.[sp] Years ago I needed an engine for my 65 falcon I happened on a 65 mustang a guy sold me for $50.I told some fellow about it and what I did.He Said "YOU GOT A MUSTANG ENGINE IN THAT " It was a 2v 289.Just a word for him no way, he was impressed.If he only knew! Does Ford Sell a mustang down there? Thanks again. |
Actually I was referring to Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) not SUMs! Those big 4WD vehicles that inner suburban mothers use to ferry the kids to/from football practice. Most people buy them to feel high and mighty on the road and they never take them offroad. They're a b1tch to see past and quite frankly they should be banned in all capital cities. Just my two cents' worth folks!

Yeah I know what you were saying.Just tried to make lite of all those big over grown 4x4 mini vans soccer mom 4x4's.We have billions of them in towns of hundreds of people. I looked at some of your cas choices.I see a falcon down there is a torino up here.Its culture shock to some degree.

Here's mine. It was baked a bit earlier than Bernies and Richards. This one had the last of the Windsor motors before they switched to the Mod motor.

The zc and zd are the only 2 cars that would be a fairlane in the U S.You got torino's and LTD's as fairlane's .totally unreconisable names.The big ride in richards post.Now that would be called a rancharo,(fords name for that body style)That Ute there has a mustang front.Gm made 2 models Elcamino (chev) and sprint (Gm)(very rare).Never seemed to have a name for the body style.I guess here they get names then the initals.LTD meant limited here.I think it meant limited to the amout we can produce in a year.And the 7 liter (428 cid)LTD ,which were Galaxies the year before..Its all to much really.In my opinion they stopped making cars in 66.Falcon's and comet's were a compact's,Fairlane and Meteor's(later replaced with the Comet name) were intermediate's.Rancharo's (ute's)came as full sized cars 57 to 59 then as falcon's 60 to 66.Then as fairlanes until they went away.All name loyalty went away soon after.
This is interesting but confusing. Here is something odd for you guys with the steering on the wrong side..My old cars 50 ford 1/2 ton and 56 vic have holes in there frames for mounting right hand steering,but nothing else.Makes me wonder where the frames were made. Somebody load up a boatful of utes and bring them up here.Open a ute dealer. |
they are both good looking units.They fronts are alot different.I did see a chev today.That I have not thought about.im going to have to look into it.The grille looks like a 50 chev pickup.Know nothing about the power other then its a 4 cylinder.But it is a ute.I will look.
I know that when ford named cars they Were ie 1965 era ford falcon, ford falcon futura,Ford falcon sprint. Ford fairlane custom ford fairlane 500.Stuff like that. In 66 they had some winners ford failane 500 GT or GTA the A was written in red.(automatic) they had 390cid.Those badges meant something. Even the boss 302 was a ford first and mustang second.There names made no sence in alot of cases really. Were 65 Mustang's sold down there in big numbers. |

Your 50 truck and Victoria would have been built for UK, Australia, NZ, and South Africa perhaps on a Canadian or Australian assy line from what were called CKD packs ( completely knocked down ) and fitted with the RHD steering etc. Some of the stuff like crossover linkage for the clutch and old 'three on the tree' manual gearshift were a pain after a few miles with wear making gearchanges like stirring porridge and hopeing you got the gear you wanted. I didnt consider RHD,I guess that would be natural.I heard on TV show about henry ford.The reason we drive on the right side of the road is because,there were so many model T's running around they had no choice.That RHD must cause a few problems buying cars here and taking them down there.I know of no laws about it (RHD LHD) in Utah.You see them around some.Mini's for sure.
I saw a picture of a 56 ford wagon down there.A rusted out relic with RHD. Answer this one.How popular are the big 4 door 4x4 pickups.They are more popular then the SUV's Mostly the Dodge with Cummins ,pimp daddy wheels are now the rage.Jacked up to where the floor is 3 1/2 feet up.We got 18 year olds owning and driving them.There almost as thick as grass.They are over fueled and make black smoke in clouds,the turbo's whine. Fairlane's havent got a chance in that market. |
I did some looking.Ford started Ute's as a coupe utility in australia in 1932 because of a reguest from a farmers wife.The only thing they are called here is, car truck thingee. I like the 67 ranchero. LHD thanks.
