Stiffy...give WASP (World Austomotive Surplus Parts, ie. ballarat holden) a call on 03 5339 9333 talk to the manager Stewart Bresnahan.

Website: www.autosurplusparts.com.au

See what he can do for you for a 6Ltr. That's where our L76's came from but they were never on the web site. Good service and pricing.

Tell him you are one of the cobra gang.

Plums 06-05-2007 08:03 AM

Calm down boys.... I think you two should settle this on the drag strip, stock Chev vs stock Ford  :p

P.S. You can both wear strange clothes if you wish...

cobrarkc 06-05-2007 10:30 AM

I have always said anybody can build a chevy, it takes skill to build a Ford, thats what seperates the men from the boys.

tmareina 06-05-2007 10:43 AM

Personally...I am a purist. Why would anyone want to put a Chevy motor in a car or replica of a car that was originally made with a Ford....or...visa versa? You can do anything you want but if you ever may want to sell it you will take a huge hit if it does not contain the correct engine type. Just my .02.

Unfortunately the position here - similiar to your Senate Bill 100 - requires low emission motors.

To met the requirements here, we need to run a Ford quad cammer or a Gen. Chev motor.

You will see reference to the Dark Side here referring to the guys with the Chevs. in Cobras.

I think it is a case of have to/must do to comply. Keeping in mind that even the GT40 now must have the quad cammer in it in Australia.

Some Cobras are running the quad cammer and some are running the Chev. motors. Guess that's a choice - there is room for either between the footwells.

The Daytona is designed to take the earlier Ford motors or the Chev. The Ford quad cammers are to wide.

Guess we would all like to run a little 351 stroker windsor with an eight stack and rams but our version of SB100 has seen an end to that.

And I think it will get even harder once the Government elected Greenies convince the Government that Global warming and carbon trading is the only way to go.

Mmm...%/... to think it is the same scientists that are convincing us that Global warming is an issue that told us the world was going to crash with 01/01/2000 and the Y2k computer roll over...Mmmmm..%/

W*nkers....%/...that are getting a ton of Government funding at the moment.

Tom, as Bernie has correctly pointed out, we can't register our cars with anything by the late series engines. If you want a cobra, and wish to drive it, then you have no choice.

You folks across the pond should consider yourselves very fortunate that you can still use the old 5Ltr., 351W, or even the older FE/427. The cars we build in Australia are seen no differently to new cars from the showroom and must comply as such. And.....

To make matters worse some kits can't fit the cammer ford engines between the footwells.

The Holden/chev powered cobras hold their price more than favorably with the Ford powered cars in Australia.

You're entitled to your .02 as you call it but to comment on a situation in another country of which you have little knowledge displays a propensity to put ones foot in ones mouth.

Just my .02.

Plums 06-05-2007 08:39 PM

I'll start by saying that I'm not a purist (as I'm sure everyone on the Australian forum already knows)....

I'm not sure that any "Darkside" Cobra's have been sold in Aus yet, but as has been mentioned before, I would be quite confident that they'd hold thier value against similar Ford powered vehicles.

To be brutally honest, I wasn't a big fan of the Cobra, simply because I am a GM man and wouldn't buy/own a Ford powered vehicle. That may sound pretty lame but my business/life is tuning GM powered vehicles, enough said.

So why the hell am I building a Cobra??? It all comes down to one man, Aussie Mike!! A couple of years ago I ran a competition to win a tune for an LS1 Commodore. The guy that one (Aussie Mike) said he had an LS1 but it wasn't in a Commodore, it was in a Cobra that he was building. To shorten the story, I met up with Mike, tuned his machine (back then it was just a chassis with a motor, see pic) and just had to have my very own Darkside Cobra.....

Thanks Aussie Mike... :D

Rebel1 06-05-2007 11:16 PM

Pssst,
You'd think uncle Mike would put hoses on the radiator to get a free tune hey?. :JEKYLHYDE

Or is that pic of Plums just a huge conspiracy?. ;)

The engine aint going..
No Radiator hoses..
No throttle cable..
No pedal box..
No coils..

sooooo....wot do you think Plums is doing on the laptop?....What caption should we give this Pic?

Downloading porno to Mikes ecm maybe....for late night viewing?.

Aussie Mike 06-05-2007 11:36 PM

Jeez, my shed hasn't got any tidier since that picture. I thought putting the body back on would give me more room but I think it just allowed more junk to be spread about.

Glad to have created another Cobra enthusiast Bobby. They are a contageous car. BTW, Thanks again for the tune, it runs a treat.

Resale wasn't something I thought about too much when I decided to go LS1 power. The fact that no one seems to want to sell their LS1 powered Cobra yet seems like a good thing to me. I'm now confident my engine choice will not affect the cars resale value. I think a lot of Aussies are more interested in pure performance than the badge glued on it.

Cheers

Aussie Mike 06-05-2007 11:37 PM

He's actually playing Solitaire. :p

Aussie Mike 06-05-2007 11:40 PM

Actually he may have been playing "Need for Speed" in my simulator chair. :D
