One of those Infernal Electrical Questions
Small issue, but nice to see corrected.............
Reversing light stopped some time ago. As part of my boot reno I thought I would get the little ba#$ard light working. Power to light (both on and off accessory???). Earth solid - no working light!!! Is there some circuit breaker or relay that controls when the light comes on and if so (difficult part) where wwill it be or how can I trace it? Minor issue, but annoying knowing that it doesn't work - No good or a roadworthy either:rolleyes:  |
Pete, did you check the back up light plug on the gearbox?
Thats if you have a T5 of some nature. And....... I've heard of a bastard file but not a bastard light ;) :) |
No T5 mate - 4 Speed auto.
Sounds like a wire trace from the gear box to somewhere to somewhere to nowhere:CRY: Or.................. Run a new wire from nowhere to somewhere:rolleyes: |
Quote:
Just find the whereabouts of somewhere and the same for nowhere and run a trace between them. ;) These small faults are a PITA. |
Thanks Les.....
You've helped me heaps**) **) I know its a PITA and it requires knowing something rather than nothing:p I'll trace the red wire to the blue wire to the can't see the wire for insulation tape. Then I'll have a beer or too. Then think what the hell - who goes backwards anyway! Unless you're Blair cane cutting:D :D :D |
On the tranny at the shift linkage is a switch.
|
Oi PCC don't get to friendly with that Rebel1 one fellow. That chap jumps ships and this nowhere to somewhere bull**** sounds to me like he is making you change engines!
Cutting cane backwards!!!! You're lucky you are related to the queen otherwise I would stop cutting that sugar grass and you would have no sugar for your 15 cups of tea per day. P.s> I didn't put her in the cane. Only the WEEDS! |
Reverse light
Peter,
Seeing you started this thread with a sensible question I will give a sensible answer.;) On most gearboxes the reverse switch only has one wire going to one contact on the switch. When the switch is activated by selecting reverse the wire on the switch is grounded. Now the light circuit is wired like this. Positive wire to one side of the lamp. Wire from the other side of the lamp to the reverse switch. Thats it.:) Cheers, Bryan |
Thanks Brian for the response I needed;)
However, I have only one positive wire running to the light (Hella unit). I presume this wire runs from the light to a switch and then onto the gearbox with the switch grounding when reverse is selected. Is that logical? If so, just got to trace the wire from the gearbox to the switch (difficult part) and check that the switch is grounding. |
Peter,
The way I discribed is the way most cars are wired but there are more than one way to skin a cat. Could be wired this way. Two contact non grounding reverse switch. Positive wire to one side of reverse switch. Other side of reverse switch to one side of reverse lamp. Other side of reverse lamp grounded. Cheers, Bryan |
did you check the bulb(s)?
;) |
did you check the bulb(s)?
;) |
Checked them twice
Checked them twice;) :3DSMILE:  |
does the light earth through it s own body
|
Pretty sure it does, but have added another earth wire to a solid ground in the boot.
|
check the inhibitor wiring
its either on the gbox or on the shifter one wire should have ign power when ign is on then when its in reverse it should have ign power coming out and this wire should goto the rev lights so if there is no power coming in then there is no power out if no power in then u have a blown fuse or a cut in the power wire i can fix it in 5 minutes but i wont be in qld till end july for a week for work |
Thanks for that Sideshow.
I have constant power going to the light, both when no key and when engine power on. Should this be so? As I have power, fuse should be okay??? Will trace wires from gearbox and see where that takes me - not easy when your wires have a habit of changing colour. As I have a power switch on the auto these wires may meet up with the reversing light wire. Should be an easy fix, just got to find the wires. |
