Painters
Does anyone know of a good painter in Sydney that has painted a fibreglass cobra ?
Im a little worried that Dave at Lingane's is going to take a very long time to paint Betty, from the conversation I have just had with him. 10 weeks to paint a car seems a little long. And i will pay cash !! Thanks |
Real cash speaks loudly.... I'd think you'll find for a real cash job you'll get it done as quickly as you want!!!

Thanks for ther tip but , I dont think you know Dave, he said 10 weeks to paint it , which really would mean 12 to 14 weeks !!!!!

I've been reading up on various approaches to painting fibreglass and several of them have 1-2 week delays in between various stages, where they leave the car to 'settle' or even bake in the sun prior to moving on. Do Linganes take a similar approach? It might give a better finish in the long run.

Dont get me wrong Dave does an amazing job , but 12 weeks ??

Fiberglass soaks up more solvents than a steel car and takes longer for the different coatings solvents to escape. The longer the primer cures the higher the gloss of the topcoat and less shrinkage of bodywork. What is the first thing everyone is going to see when they walk up to your car? I would wait weeks between priming and blocking my car.

If you know youre going to get a great job and he is only going to take 12 -14 weeks Id be getting in line ASAP. Im from Adelaide and most shops here wont do full resprays unless youre taking cash.

hi there i painted my car as i am a sprayer by trade and i spent 2 weeks prepping it and then primed it ,left it a couple of days ,blocked it down, re primed it.2days then blocked it down again and then re masked it and prepped it for topcoat .the car was baked 3 times in all but at a reduced temp.The car was then wet sanded with 2000 and buffed.Iwas pleased with the end result and it still looks superb 5 years on. prepping is the secret ,if it looks a bit dodgy in primer it will look worse in colour. use top quality paints ,don't be tempted by bargain paints. I used Glasurit and have been using thier paints for 15 years and have never had a problem,other brands such as PPG or Sikkens or Du Pont are also good products.to answer your question 12 weeks does seem a long time , you don't want the primer sitting around too long as primer is pourous and will draw water in ,this is not good in long run,can lead to micro-blistering.good luck dave

I reckon most New Zealanders probably think of their country as the North Island, The South Island and The West Island. There's enough Kiwis living over here now that they can claim to own a fair chunk of Australia. :LOL:

hi Mike , yea i guess its changed alot over the last few years ,we have only been here 5 years in november ,we came from the UK and we are enjoying it . The town is growing fast and is improving as a place to live all the time,its the 6th largest city in NZ now. the cobra scene was massive in the UK and i am finding cobras few and far between although i know of a few and 3 in the process of building. catch ya later regards Dave.
