New Rules
Has anyone heard of the draft rules for ICV's in Qld. I was enquiring about a kit being developed. This is the answer I recieved
" have just received a draft copy of proposed new rules and regulations concerning the construction of ICV’s (individually constructed vehicles). The new rules headed “ Guidelines for individually Constructed Vehicles” has been compiled by the Queensland Transport and is in draft form only at this stage, however if the draft rules are instigated without change they will effectively eliminate our product from the market place" It dos'nt look good for ICV's. The only thing that I have heard that it might involve crash testing. Warren |
Warren, haven't heard anything concrete. Only the change to emissions.
I'm surprised the manufacturers and associated businesses up here haven't done more to try and negotiate mutually beneficial rules. As from next year it looks like the only viable engine choice for GT40's & Daytona's will be Holden/Chev. Will be a shame to see Ford and other powerplant options be no longer viable. |
why would ford options not be viable, isnt there a way you can squeeze the 5.4 into the GT kit???
theres always the injected Mustang motors !! |
Daytona & GT40 suffer from lack of height available for engines.
The 4.6lt Modular(Mustang) engine is not euro2 compliant. So cannot be fitted here after this year. |
Warwick Harrison has a copy of the new rules and his engineer has read them too. No major dramas it seems. Just formalising a number of conventions I believe.

RE: 5.4 in GT40

Hi Guys
Don't see what all the fuss is about as the 5.4 Boss motor does fit into a GT40Yes it is a little squeezy but still not a major problem. Check attached photos. Dimi |

The only problem with the 5.4 is it doesn't look like this. IMHO GT40s and Windsor V8's are go just like Cobra's. I'de go Darkside before I touched a 5.4
in a worst case scenario . |
Re: 5.4
True
But in NSW if that is the only way it will get rego then so be it. Dimi. |

I believe GT40s were made for Ford by Lola originally. Chebbies have been powering Lolas for many years so I don't think it's too much of a crime.

ICV Guidelines/Applications
Quote:
For the Qld builders, I was talking to my engineer today, Ray Cross, who does a lot of Harrison Cobras, and he said that my approval to build an ICV is still with Qld Transport awaiting approval. It has been there since April this year. Apparently mine and 12 others are being held up due to a change of the guidelines that require more paperwork and drawings etc... He is arguing that those in the pipeline prior to the latest guidelines should be processed under the previous rules. He seems fairly confident we will be okay, however it would be nice to know one way or the other:confused: And there is no truth to the rumour that those presenting applications to build an ICV that will be powered by a Ford motor are being put to the end of the queue. :3DSMILE: Apparently the examiners said the Ford guys were used to that position...:D :D :D Cheers Mick |

the main problem is there is such a variance on engineers and people at the rta who whoever make the rules
i would suggest to find out what day they get paid then either go see them then or the day after they are normal people like all of us and have good and **** days i know an engineer here that if u keep asking him enough be on his good side he might pass somehting borderline thereis more rumours goin round and round best thing to do is get afew people in same state to do phone these places that make the rules ring afew of them not all the same ring them say once every few days or weeks just to see if you get a different answer from different people im sure u will get afew diff answers |
I called the guy who does the ICV's at Transport Queensland today (19/9/07) and spoke with him about the "changes". He was very re-assuring and said that they are trying to reduce the paperwork and put greater emphasis on the approved engineer's report. He said that the changes planned were procedural and only related mechanically to the new ADRs for emisssions. Some of you may know more than this but for what its worth....
