New Jaguar V8 set to replace Ford 5.4

Hi Guy's

I read an article in todays paper that says Ford are going to use a new Jaguar V8 to replace the 5.4 moduar motor. This new motor sounds like a bit of a beast with something like 365KW.

Here's the article: New Jaguar V8

Cheers

365KW, is that around 400 plus horse power?

...you know, for us dumb USA type guys who drive on the wrong side of the road. :D

Excalibur... HP is roughly 30% more than the kW figure. So 487HP approx.

.

...'bout 489.

Does anyone else see the irony in this after the Ford plant closure last year and the imminent layoffs that are likely to occur in the coming week?

Aussie Mike 08-23-2007 10:30 PM

From reading some other articles on it they are saying 500HP. So some Aussie journalist has probably done the sums to convert it back to metric. I think it's actualy 375KW they quoted in the original article which when multiplied by 1.34 makes 502.5HP

I think shutting down the Geelong engine plant is a great shame :( That Barra 4.0 inline six still has a huge ammount of potential.

Cheers

Wont happen. Jag will be sold by then. :)

Ford should have realised they already have the basics for excellent engines. All they have to do is learn how to cast aluminium engine blocks and how to assemble those blocks using o-rings instead of bits of cardboard.

My money is on a re-introduced but updated older design V8 using latest technology. :p :D

Just like ermm...what's their name did. :o :o

And....I'll be a really happy little vegemite if that happens.

There has been some talk in fordforums about this. It's also in today's Herald Sun.

Makes sense that the Jag V8 is used in other models or else it could go the way of the Aussie I6, not enough production.

But Jag is also tipped to be sold from the Ford empire.

Details of the Hurrican V8 (6.2 and 5.8ltrs) are still a bit sketchy. I've read it's either an OHV or DOHC V8. I'd be tipping it's OHV to compete with Hemi's and LS's and it would be also (in OHV form) be less costly to manufacture; given Ford's financial woes atm.

The reason the Ford Logo is Blue is because thats what colour fans go when they hold their breath waiting for Ford to get their act together !!

Congratulations to Ford for once again trying to come up with a better engine than the General has been using since 1955. I really thought Ford got it right with the 351 Windsor as it was just about equal in performance and reliability to the sb Chevy but no once again, the "better idea" company has to reinvent the V-8.

It's no wonder Chevy guys always have the last laugh.
