still good as used at the recent nationals :eek:

Come on Ford (or Lexus) powered owners this uni would have at least another 20000kms left in it for you. Make an offer and help the man out.

Just jokes......the Bumblebee's Holden brakes a fine, although I certainly could do with a bigger set...the Nissan brakes on the red racer are brilliant.

I certainly found out at that 2006 Shelbyfest, that what sounds like a stone in the brakes, may well be metal against metal....DUH..... and that just 'cause the brakes were fine BEFORE the practice day, that you should check how much is still there AFTER the practice day, and BEFORE you go all out on the competition day.

I learned how to drift that week....no choice!

Those pictures should serve as a warning to all that if we intend on going that little bit quicker ..perhaps a couple of hours preventative maintenance wouldn't go astray...
Scrutineering can only check visually so much the rest is left up to us....

It also leads us to that question about Insurance at these events and the reasons they baulk at coverage on our cars...
Where does the scrutineers liability stop he allowed the car on the track with pads and uni's(obviously not in there degraded condition:eek: ) that may not have been acceptable to a more heavily scrutinised event ...

Don't worry I spend a lot more than "a couple of hours" preventative maintenance.
I drive my Cobra over 20,000 klms a year ,and that particular trip was a 3,400 kilometre round trip , with a full race meeting ( Shelbyfest) thrown in, and the temperature down and back was around 45 - 47 degrees....i.e. a bit bloody hot!........FEBRUARY 2006.

The only "problem" I had for the whole trip was that I cooked a set of pads, and I guess it could be said that I was hardly nursing the car at any stage.

Before I left Queensland I had checked everything.

The car ran like a dream, there were a new set of brake pads there when I left ( Race Pads), but I guess the 47 degree heat all the way down, combined with a MILLION practice laps when we got there, and the continued extreme heat just destroyed the brake pads.

I couldn't believe a full set of pads had "disappeared".

Don't worry I check the pads again and again, as well as everything else before any track runs now.

That was my error, and the scrutineer can't be checking everything...lesson learned.
I agree though.....there are a great number of Cobra drivers that get a real wakeup call when they take their cars out on a racetrack....Things break/bend/melt/twist in a matter of 15 minutes on a track, when they would be fine with "normal" street use.

Pissy little VL Commodore single piston, power boosted, with 290 mm DBA rotors.
Racepads in Comp, and braided steel lines.

Looking at a brake upgrade, plenty of decent looking kits on ebay, to upgrade to twin piston Commodore brakes....or.... the Nissan GTR brakes , like I've got on the Race Cobra, which I think are awesome.

No urgency though....Now that I'm not racing the Black one any more, I'm pretty happy with the Commodore brake set up....it works fine.

I know what you mean.
We have another Track Hire day at Morgan Park Raceway coming up at the end of this month.
It will soon be easy to tell which owners put in a bit of time on their cars, and which ones think that the cars go forever without checking on them from time to time.

Hey Wazza you running the holden drums on the back as well,
I did a Hopper conversion on the front and back of mine was the best thing
makes a huge difference !

Just spent the day with about 8 other Cobra members, doing battle with the Corvettes in the annual INDY MUSCLE CAR GYMKHANA here at the Gold Coast.


GREAT day, and it looks like that $1,000 Bob Jane Voucher I won at the Nationals raffle arrived just in time.

I got rid of what ever tread was left today......down to Bob Jane with voucher in hand tomorrow.

INDY this week....DRIVERS PARADES around the track just before the V8 Supercars and Indy cars,with 12 Cobras both days....keep a look out for us.

I hope those gorgeous Indy Girls don't come on to me again....I feel like a piece if meat the way they look at me....

Down at the Indy on Friday doing the unofficial Cobra Parade consisting of..............

Drive down in the Cobra, run parallel to the track then park up in a secret location in Broadbeach. Then...................

Grandstand afternoon on the p#$$ and then sobering up before returning Saturday to watch the V8's in the best seat (in front of the Plasma).
