Car transport
Hello to all the Cobra people.
I have just bought a car for my wife, it is in Geelong and I am looking at ways to get it to me in Alice Springs. I can get it moved from Adelaide to Alice for $200. But the expensive bit is Geelong to Adelaide, the best price I have found so far is $400 with TNT. Does anyone have any contacts in this field? The car is roadworthy, registered and drives. Sadly with no competition for Qantas, the cost of a one way ticket is about $350.00, by the time I add fuel, food and accomodation costs, it is cheaper to truck it up. Option 1 = Transporter approx $600.00 May need to add $50 to move within Adelaide. Option 2 = Fly to Melbourne on a Friday arvo $350 Stay at Mums house overnight in Melbourne, $00 Have a beer with Aussie Mike and Cobra people $xxx Fuel costs to drive, Geelong - Alice Approx $250 Accomodation at Glendambo Approx $175 Food for me Approx $080 Approx Total Minimum $855 So option 1 is the cheapest. Me being a tight ass am just trying to get it cheaper. Thanks for any help or suggestions |
option 2 would be more memorable, hangover,s a plenty but memorable non the less
cheers |
Buy a car in Darwin, it's only 1500ks away!:) **)
Cheers |
It only sounds like a lot of money if you say it slow.
I just paid $50 for a 5 minute tilt tray ride from one part of Adelaide to dry creek just up the road, then circa $700 (havent got the bill yet) to get table topped on a 40 footer to Toowoomba, then $6-700 to get to Emerald in Qld. That was with no motor or box in it, so all up.. hmmm... what? about 600 kg? I suppose it depends on how much money you can make in the time you would be away driving it home. Then again, it would be a great way to get to know your new car and the locals on the route home. Sadly my toy never turned up today, they missed the pickup cutoff on friday so I wont see it until tomorrow or more likely wednesday now. If you get it trucked, try to avoid companies with names like tipover transport. |

Boxhead,
You could fly me down from Darwin, at your expense I'll do the drinking of grog with the cobra gents and save you that terrible hangover. I'll pay for what I drink. Then I could drive your car back at your expense. I would get a holiday, and it would only csot you slightly more, but no headache.?? Hogster |
This car I have bought isnt a Cobra, so there is no need to get too excited about the drive.
Sadly it does have a blue oval badge on it (First thing to be removed) It is an open topped convertable. I wonder if I could find any Swedish backpackers in Melbourne wanting a lift to Alice? |
Boxhead,
I went with Door To Door - (07) 3206 8366. They open trucked my rolling chassis from Harrison's to Melbourne for $745. Not sure whether they do Melb-Adelaide but they're friendly, honest and were the best quote by far. It would've been about $100 cheaper if the car ran under it's own power. Worth a try! Sambo |
Hay Boxhead,
I would surggest you contact Stiffy if you require the services of a Swedish back packs in Melbourne as roumer has it he has some very reliable contacts for such a task. |
