I have to talk the wife into learning to drive the Cobra
I have got to get out in the Cobra now the weather is getting better. I don't know if she could drive it as she hasn't driven a stick shift for years since I had the 74 Monaro which she called her car and drove it everywhere. It takes nearly all my strength to depress the clutch the first day I drove it I had a sore leg from pushing in the clutch.
Cheers, Bryan |
Hi Bryan
You know what they say. It's like riding a bike, you never forget. Get her going unless she has the same problem as my wife. Karen can't reach the pedals very well, too short. Take care Brent |
My wife knows she can drive the car..............but she never has. She did mention she would try it at Watkins Glen next September. She is a great driver. Maybe she is waiting for me to put a boo boo on it first. LOL

Not my wife, I just have visions of the video of that lady crashing her Cobra into parked cars.

Having the right wife helps a lot. My wife did a good job of driving CSX 3121 on a bunch of occasions when she was a twenty-something, and now controls the 'Vette (788 rear wheel horsepower!) better than I do. I guess that she never learned to treat the loud pedal as an off/on switch.

Most women have trouble with the pedals because they have smaller feet (an evolutionary thing so that they can get closer to the sink and stove).

NICE ! I'll have to use that one when I need some sex.NOT.......

If I was closer Bryan, I would offer to visit and take you for a spin, a nice trip along the great ocean road, visit Bernie, ave a beer, drive home.

Maybe look at making some changes to make it more friendly to your other half. Looking to make the clutch lighter, getting the right seating distance, steering light enough. These cars can be made female friendly without too much expense.
My partner drives the cars as much as I do. I just take her to an empty parking lot for some practice first, to get a feel for it, to get her confidence up. I get her to practice starts, stops and turns before heading out on the road. Also being able to park it and not try to dry steer it etc. Also got to teach her to watch out for driveways, speed bumps etc. I'll be doing the same with the new Cobra. It gets her really interested in the cars and her friends think there is nothing cooler. Bryan, I think you will be surprised at how much she enjoys driving it. You might have trouble getting her out of it. :D |
Ill try and encourage the treasurer to have a drive, considering she is tolerating my building this ridiculously expensive toy, I think I owe her a drive.
Plus I have the added benefit of a number of WW2 airstrips within easy reach in Darwin. Wide open spaces, bitumen and nothing to hit. I plan to teach myself to drive the car on one of them, and rip through some sets of cruddy tyres whilst unlearning what I thought I knew about driving fast cars. I think the wife will have a go, spin out a couple of time and hand over the keys. If she likes it, the next one will be a kirkham. |
Bryan
My build from day one has always been oriented to allow SWMBO the opportunity to drive the car. With a few reminders on kerbs, speed humps etc I don't see her driving the car as a problem. The standard mechanical clutch will test her a little but it has always been the seating arrangements that have been a big limiting factor. I think there is enough give in the current set up to allow her to drive in semi comfort - we will see. I am awaiting my VIN but after that I'll need some excuses to test the car out on longer drives. A trip down the GOR seems a likely candidate in the not too distant future. The club is starting to look at such a drive later next year but that's too far away. Maybe an impromtu run can be arranged passing by your place of course!! I'd be keen to look at this other toy you have in the garage anyway, to see how it is going. Cheers Steve |
I'll do it
Brian I'm coming to Melb for the weekend, if you like I can come around and take you for a spin for a couple of hours Sat morning and I'll give the car back sunday afternoon when I leave.
Dont trouble the missus :D :D :D |
