The REAL State of Origin (Cobra Nats 2007)

Just wanted to raise some friendly interstate rivarly. :D

Cobra Nationals 2007 Results by State...The REAL State of Origin.

Total Points:
NSW - 58
QLD - 35
VIC - 33

Number of Points per Competitor(Total Points / Total Competitors):
QLD - 2.5
VIC - 1.32
NSW - 1.04

Competitors:
TOTAL - 98
NSW - 56
VIC - 25
QLD - 14
SA - 3

Notes:
* 3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd in each event.
* 5 points for 1st overall, 4 points for 2nd overall, etc.
* Female competition was not counted as not all eastern states had competitors.
* Non-Cobras were not counted
* Show & Shine was counted. First 3 places for each class get 3, 2 & 1 points respectively and 1 point for each of the other trophies - best paint, best engine bay, most original, sponsors choice etc.

NSW wins easily by overall points, but they are also the largest contingent. :)

NSW comes last by points per competitor, but that's the curse of having the largest contingent. :(

Very hard to make a meaningful comparison I think - Less competitors from Qld and Vic, but those who do attend would be the more enthusiastic cobra owners (ie - those who compete more and likely spend more), and therefore more likely to more competitive then the average owner in their respective state.

A greater cross section of owners from NSW would result in a lower "average" result. Still interesting information. Perhaps select the top 10 cars from each state, and them make a comparison? A break up by make would be interesting to see too.

NSW certainly dominated the Show & Shine.

I don't have any hard information on vehicle makes, although I do know a lot of the vehicles.

King Cobra Positions by Make:
1st: Harrison
2nd: Robnell
3rd: DRB
4th: CR
5th: Harrison
6th: Robnell
7th: CR
8th: RCM
9th: DRB
10th: Harrison

See if I get time to do anything else with the results. Top 10 is a great idea, but a lot more work than what I did.

Working the numbers

Craig Interesting analysis,

I did something similar a while ago looking at the CR brand of car.

6 out of the 13 show and shine awards went to classic revivals.

4 out of the 12 cars that went 1.10 are classic revivals.

6 out of the top 20 in the hill climb are classic revivals.

That is not bad for a car that had 7 cars and 11 drivers or entrants.

And you have to divide QLD results in half as you have Wazza as president and that is your punishment:LOL:

Top 10 Results:

Total of Top 10 by overall points(placings) for each state: (I didn't even have to add this up)

NSW (by far)
VIC
QLD (long way behind VIC)

Same as above, but with points only for 1st, 2nd & 3rd, & Shows:

QLD - 35
NSW - 27
VIC - 21
(I really thought NSW would win this)

I can do the Top 10 in each state by my point system, then work out the totals, but that will take a lot longer to calculate.

Phil, nothing shabby about those Classic Revivals. :D Some of the sprint times were incredible, very impressive.
