5 speed options

I have been going around in circles for weeks trying to decide which way to go, have narrowed it down to the uprated version of the t5 or tko 5oo, currently have a single rail 4 speed behind a 302w. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Diff Ratio

Stuart,

What diff ratio are you running?. You will need to choose your fifth gear and possibly your first gear ratio to suit your diff. TKO 600 is a good option.

Stuartt, Read the following about gearing:

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...309#post730309

It was written prior to the release of the TKO 500/TKO 600 but first you have to get your head around the gearing. ie. the relationship between 1st and 5th gear,
your tyre size, and your diff ratio.

Also as the above site mentions, you will have to make a decision to gear for the track or the street.

Hope that helps.

Some reading for you

Stuart,

I have attached a gearbox ratio calulator. It takes into account Diff, Tyre, Rim and gives you revs at different speeds on various Gearboxes.

Also check these websites for more Tremec info

http://www.moderndriveline.com/Techn...its/tremec.htm

http://www.malwoodauto.com.au/

and CAPA Performance in SA had Tremecs at a great price a few months ago.

Consider buying it from the US and save yourself over $500-00.

I paid $1850 USD from Summit racing for a Ford Performance Box that is identical to TKO 600, just sold as a ford box Good 1st gear and overdrive ratios which can be an issue. It arrived at my house in Darwin 8 days later, including road freight across the US. Freight was about $300 USD.

Very happy with the result

Tko 600

HI Stuart,
If the 302 is pretty stock I would stick to a T5, they shift well and if you get the Mustang or world class they can handle a 302 windsor.

I run a TKO 600 with 3.9 diff and 26inch wheels. The 5th ratio I have is .6 which is great for freeway use and the close ratio 1 to 4th is great for the track.

I bought mine from Summit racing and with the dollar as it is you would probably have it delivered to your door for about $3000.00.

I just bought a GForce T5 with the various strengthening upgrades, and the .75 overdrive. I think the previous commenter was right, if you are under 400hp stick with "world class" or greater T5. Reason: it can handle the load and it's lighter than the TKO. And they are el-cheapo. If you are > 400, then you could do what I did, or go with the TKO. The upgraded GForce T5 is heavier than the stock unit, by how much I don't know.
