Boy Alzheimer's has set in at my age - that was 7 years ago..

I used the blanket and trimmed it to fit. Used the heat hi temp silicon on the edges as Craig suggested.

It was under the GT40 rear clip.

I have just finished doing my foot boxes & trans tunnel in FAT MAT INSULATION
its a mat that has a alloy face .mastic thermo centre
you just cut to size & then remove the backing & refit my brother put me onto it has they use it to insulate boat exhausts & heat proof walls rated to 400deg so I put 2 layers just in case
the roll was 10metres long & 600mmm wide
hope this helps

i got a large sheet of what looks like a thin layer of foil glued to exhaust wrap tape. It's about 3mm thick.

i got it from summit ,not sure if it will work well and if silicon will stick to fibreglass and exhaust wrap material.....

I used Lizard Skin ceramic insulation. Cost is about the same a Fat Mat. very easy to apply with a brush or sprayer. No seams. And goes around compound curves with ease. Works really well. After a 20 min track session on a hot day, the carpet is still cool.

I use ThermoTec CoolIt for my interior. It is thermal and acoustic. Check their website, they have several other products as well. For other apps, like under hood wiring that passes near exhaust headers, I can always find what I need from McMaster Carr. They have a load of heat shield products and wire wraps, some that are good to 2200 F.

I don't know if this would work on your car, but I found that thin aluminum sheets with a 3/16" air gap really help keep the heat from the headers off of the footboxes.

Any tips for Shielding/Insulating Sidepipes ?

Rossba 02-09-2014 04:32 AM

Hi Bernie

Where are you wanting to put it.
I put some white KO wool between the panels of the tunnel that I got from Geelong and some foil type stuff near the headers.
I have some KO wool off cuts if you want to have a look and can only show you the other stuff on the car.
We used to use the KO wool on the furnaces for melting metal at the casting plant.

Mine doesn't get unbearably hot.
