Harness/looms
Has anyone had experience with a harness/loom from Painless Performance Products in the USA? The ones I have seen (http://www.painlessperformance.com/w...rchField=10202 ) appear quite useful.

Pretty sure Les is an advicator for painless products - no doubt he will chirp in. Have you a contact for these products as I need to replace my fuse box with a waterproof one that Painless sell? Thanks |

It has a few extras (hi beam switch, ignition + key, billet headlight switch) over the Painless kits and the modular fuse box is really easy to work with. When I was researching the different kits I found a number of people saying this one had higher gauge wiring and was top quality, made in the USA and not China like some of the others. I've found the schematics really clear and the instructions are well laid out. It has all the connectors and firewall plugs and the wiring is labeled every few inches. I picked it up on eBay for about $330 delivered, which is a bargain in anyone's language. Can't really fault the kit to be honest. Paul |
I purchased mine from EZ to wire, off US e-bay. Heavier duty wiring, black and white with id on each wire.
Its a really neat loom, good quality wiring and components. Haven't installed it yet but getting close. Best part - cheap as chips. |
EZ2wire is now delisted from eBay, but I don't think that's a reflection of the product as he's just a reseller. That's where I got mine, incidentally.

Yep, I have the Painless 10 circuit system.
Aussie dealers are here: http://www.painlessperformance.com/I...ernational.php I got the 10 circuit as I wanted the radiator fan, fuel pump and head light relays in close proximity to the those components. Ie. Easy to check & change rather than crawling under the dash. I have a couple of spare circuits off the fuse box if I more circuits. Went in easily, is also clearly marked every 12" on all wires. When you get the loom the fuse box is pre-wired. This means all terminations are done at the component level. Much easier than starting at the component and terminating at the fuse box. What surprised me was the basic install took one day and when powered up everything worked. :eek: :D |
most pre made looms are pretty well
i used to fit painless years ago but now there are more brands on offer for a slight cheaper price at end of day they all do the same thing just need to see how many circuits u want to run most use common colours too so most brands match in some respect the fusebox is hard wired to rest of loom which is good i never use a fusebox with spade terminals off it due to wires falling off its not hard to make a complete loom from scratch u just need to know afew things the painless loooms with save u time but its just fiddly figuring out the hazards and lights etc and adapting them to diffent types of switches and flashers and column these days painless looms are pricey i think |
Thanks guys. Lots of good ideas. I have seen a Painless harness and they are well done and clearly labelled with a good manual. As noted above they are available in Oz, altho' the prices are not available on the web. Can check on that. Also there are Australian suppliers of custom harnesses (Sideshow - thanks!). So the choices are to buy a custom made one, make one yourself or buy a "painless"-type. Still thinking here....

sorry i dont make any body harnesses for the cobra
and the ones i have i have seen premade for the cobra are not what i call show car standard all cobras i do i class as show cars and therefore try to hide things as best as possible where other makers use fuseboxes and fuses from factory holden made cars and have **** looking things in the engine bay but thats just my opinion guess thats y it costs more for a custom made hidden loom and not all cobras are the same so to make a body harness is hard if the car is not ifnront of me but i can make u a complete engine harness and supply all necessary bits anyway i replied to your email thanks |
