Nose section - worth an ask!
Given my recent accident, it's worth asking if anyone has a cobra body with a good nose section they are willing to part with?
Especially where the body has been used to repair someone else's car on a different location on their car. Given it's an insurance job, other sources are available but the thread was worth the ask. PM me if you have or know of a cobra body needing de-heading! Cheers |
What advice have you been given so far on the best method to repair that nose?
You could either: 1. Grafting a piece in is one method. 2. The other method is to place moulds over the existing body and glass the repair directly onto car itself. The 2nd method ensures perfect alignment with the existing body, but is prone to more inconsistencies such as air pockets etc as the fibreglass work is performed in less than idea positions & visibility. The 2nd method has big advantages when you are repairing areas like guards etc as it is very easy to get the alignment incorrect and have a slightly high or drooping guard. It's not so clear cut with that front repair. Maybe you might want to find someone else with the same shape G-Force body to make a self locating mould from that covers the repair area instead of a replacement nose area. Just some thoughts... |

Slowly , my best advice is replace the complete body.
I gave mine a hit in the rear which moved the body forward 5mm Once the body has been hit it will remain stressed and will crack later on when you least expect it. Cameron brought my old body which only had a hit in the rear left hand side. The front was perfect. Maybe he will part with it ??? |

Mine was only hit in the front. The insurance company did not hesitate to replace the whole body. They were told thats how the body comes they said fine.

Thanks guys, I've got Marty Govett (Kenmer) on the case as an insurance claim, just thought this might throw up another option.
Not sure how the insurer would look at full body replacement but Martin's got someone on board that should be able to give very good technical advice in terms of how much or little is needed to fix the nose. Anyway standard excess aside it's all on Shannons and what is eventually allowed for in the quote. The only issue that may be critical is whether there will be glass movement down the track and after painting that becomes visible. Cheers |

With any glass body there will be movement...:( They are a breathing thing, therefore grafting the new piece where it is least visible is your best option....On that note it would be the sill next to your seat. Its a long way back but the best spot... STIFFY |

See if you can get a new body from G-force. You'll end up with the new moulded body which is very straight and requires minimum work prior to painting.... just a thought!!!

Thanks Bobby it's a thought. But I've seen how little work they need and it is still considerable but probably better than the old mould.
