Thanks Smithy. What colour Optima do you have - red, blue or yellow? I'm confused by the info on their site.
Alfie, thanks but I like the sound of these Optima batteries which can also be oriented on their sides and they're available at my local shop. Also 'Sochienstron' gets zero hits on Google - typo?

Paul
I've got the 900cc Odyssey for $300 even from a source in Cranbourne. He may have one in stock as he plays in the aircraft / hellio game where they need this cranking capacity.
I am very happy with this battery, and if you want contact details let me know.
Cheers.

This site looks to be the best value for money and no doubt the Canadian exchange rate will help.

Does anyone know where to get wire disconnects from? Not the crude male/female snap plugs, but two piece disconnects similar to the molex plugs inside your home PC. eg, the ones you plug into your hard drive.

This is the Aussie region of the forum. :)
The Australian dollar gets about 93c to either of the Canadian and US dollars at the moment, which is a huge improvement on what it was a few years ago.

Thanks sideshow. I just bought an Exide Orbital 100Ah AGM, essentially the same as the Optima/Odyssey/etc. This one has side posts and can be mounted on it's side.
Now for a crash course in automotive wiring! :)
Found a terrific source of reference material here.

Geoff, the "heat shrink" I saw on the weekend wasn't rigid, it was almost like they didn't apply the heat. More of a loose, flexible sleeve to protect the wires from the elements. I might give them a ring and find out what they used.

Sounds like 'spaghetti'. It comes in various materials depending on the environment in which it is being used. The fibreglass version is used for heat affected applications.

I visited Semico whilst in Sydney. They did have some useful bits but only trade in quantity. They reckon Utilux was swallowed up by Molex.
