Aussie Hoon Laws Hi all, Has been awhile since I was here last and looking at recent posts I have some questions regarding the Hoon laws. Sorry if I'm behind the times- been living in Chicago since '02 so this all is news to me. Anyway, do these 'Hoon Laws' or is it 'Anti-Hoon Laws' exist in each state? (or a variant of) Basically, what are the specific details? What is the process of loosing your car to the authorities? Does Queensland have something similar? I'm originally from Brisbane and will be moving back home in the near future. Cheers- Layne BTW- If 'SPOOKYPT' (Matt) reads this can you shoot me an email, mate. I lost your address through a computer crash- bugger! |

I thought the QLD Anti-Hoon legislation was brought in during 2002. So sounds like you just missed the fun. It was in response to community complaints mainly in the Gold Coast. 1st offence, vehicle is confiscated for 48hrs. 2nd offence, vehicle is confiscated for up to 3 months. 3rd offence, vehicle is confiscated permanently. It's just like license points here, the offences must be committed within 3 years. If you go 3 years without an offence, then you are back to square one. Hooning is defined as either racing, burnouts etc. Reading in the papers recently it seems we now have permanent vehicle confiscation for serial traffic offences and it's permanent confiscation on the 4the 4th offence. Not sure if that now applies to the hooning behaviour or not. We've also had a big clamp down on illegal vehicle modifications on the Gold Coast as well. |

Hi Bernie, I'm in Barrington which is about an hour north of the city. Moved here in 2002 and was expecting to be here for a bit longer, but my mum is crook with cancer and not looking good. As you'd expect the family and I want to move asap, but the Yank economy sucks so we just have to wait. In the mean time I'm keeping my little resto-mod shop open and busy, which is good I guess. Wanted to also let the good folk here know that I have a little web based business sourcing parts for anyone back in Aus. I've been helping some of my mates with their parts shopping- not going head to head with the big importers, just helping folks who want hard to get or find stuff. I'm not sure of this forums protocol so I'm with-holding my site links. Don't want to step on toes! Jeez, can you tell I like a chat? Sorry, let me know if I can help with anything Cheers- Layne |
