Dark side gets darker

How about an LS9 .... 6.2 Ltrs of supercharged alloy block. :eek:

600 + hp off the shelf.

Look here and drool. :JEKYLHYDE http://www.hotrodlane.cc/LS9/ls9.html

alffie 05-01-2008 03:35 AM

They will be available as a crate motor end of the year. 632hp in a Cobra would interesting. Pass emissions too!! Runs LS7 heads mmmm blower set up will bolt straight on a LS7 hmmm

Ako 05-01-2008 03:36 AM

I want one

Rebel1 05-01-2008 03:39 AM

alffie, That's just unreal. Heaps more after a tune I bet.

If all that blower stuff fits an LS7 then good chance that it will bolt on an L76 too.

Cheers

Plums 05-01-2008 03:57 AM

It would be close, but I don't think it'll bolt straight onto the L76 heads, as the LS7 heads have a higher intake angle... may be wrong though.

Rebel1 05-01-2008 04:17 AM

Frankly Plums, I wouldn't want it....I'll be more than happy with what you tuner types are now getting out of the 6 Ltr engines.

I can see the after market wanting those blowers though. :eek:

Without stirring the ford/chev debate I am just amazed at what chev is doing with their push rod engines.

Cheers

Oi, Uncle Les!
Ya turned into one cranky, crusty, one eyed Chev boy havn't ya!

Have ya read the lastest Wheels mag?

The new Falcon XR6 Turbo, 270kws, does a 0-100km time of 5.1 sec on a full tank of gas!
OMG!!!! Not bad for 4ltrs and a turbo and $50k. The FPV F6 is tipped to run high 4s all day long.
But before you ask, the new XR8, 290kw is lucky to run a flat six. Ford have powerful engines, they're just not V8s :(
But the Triton 5.4s are no more and its replacement is 5.8 and 6.2 DOHC V8's due to revised bore centres, if the rumers are true.
I'm just glad I managed to stuff a 347ci Ford Windsor into my Cobra before the rules change :)

Rebel1 05-01-2008 08:44 AM

Now Now uncle Al, Ya turned into one cranky, crusty, one eyed Ford boy havn't ya!. :)

Are you talking about the aussie designed and made, super reliable, designed about a century ago , iron block in line 6 cylinder which is rumored to be out of production in the next couple of years. excellent engine that it is. :D

Actually, would you believe, I am of the opinion that very engine would go awfully well in a cobra. Cept for the exhaust note. :p

So, it stand to question, if you love this said engine, why did you not put it in your cobra?.

don't tell me....
let me guess....

A cobra has got to have a V8 ... even if only for the exhaust noise...and you managed to obtain a nice 347ci windsor based engine ..a very nice engine...with a bluddy 'orrible lookin intake system.

I however love the old versions...the proper cobra ones with a carby or two sitting on a dual plane manifold...a distributor on the front and one coil hangin off the side.

If I can't have me carby's and have to put up with funny lookin manifolds, injectors, coil packs, and ecu's, none of which looks anything like wot lives in a real cobra then all bets are off.

If I'm gonna be forced into the modern age then I'm gonna choose the best modern engine I can. Made of modern metals and plastics to go in my plastic cobra replica. ;)

If originality can't be had then all's left is mindblowing performance. I believe I've got that. :LOL:

Cheers ya cheeky bugga. :3DSMILE:

What ya mean, 'orrible lookin intake system? :D

You should see what lies inside it; eight bewtiful tuned length trumpets that's wot! One of me Cobra buddies put the said manifold on his 302 and then cut a bit hole in the top of it, covered it with polycarbonate and then polished up the trumpets inside. Way cool lookin' thing :MECOOL: it was. It's also made of that space age material stuff made from recycled XXXX cans that you're so fond of up there. No plastic in sight! :o

I've now lost me coil pack for a dizzy & coil instead too. Nothing stopping ya from getting that retro carby look while still running EFI. Aussie Mike has been tinkering with retro EFI and my same mate who cut a bit 'ole in his plenum has now ditched it altogether; made an alloy box that bolted to his lower manifold and stuck two 1000cfm 4 barrel t/bs on this 302!:eek: Looks wild as and has throttle response of a motor bike! **)

Cheers

Rebel1 05-01-2008 07:13 PM

Hehehehe, now look at all that work ya gotta do to make em look half way reasonable. :rolleyes:

Now these other things...the modern recycled beer can versions look good outta the box. Not only do they look good but they perform just as well. :p

My comments were aimed towards the variety of flavours one can have with these modern engines. :)...look at the range. From 5.3, 6.0, 6.2,7.0 liters and now supercharged as well. All outta the box. It's a bit like owning an ice cream parlor. If you only sold vanilla and across the road another shop sold all flavors then he is likely to get more bizness than you. :LOL:

Like uncle Mike, I may well resort to those 4 barrel throttle bodies but the thing is...I don't havta do it to make it look good or perform. :cool:. Not only do they look gorgeous but they have the cubes which can't be matched by the competition. ( If they really do have any competition that is) :3DSMILE:

I note on another thread pics from a Melbourne based Daytona factory wherein the engines being installed in said daytona's look suspiciously like a big brother version of mine. :eek:

Progress marches on...... :LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can't help it if you're colour blind Uncle Les!!:p

There you go again, like a kid in a lolly shop, quoting all these engines you can get when actually you can't get most of 'em, if you want a street registered Cobra. 5.3, nup not sold here, 7.0 lucky you'll find one from a wrecked HSV that's not worth your right arm so they're as good as not been available. Forget about any supercharged ones, none are sold here! If I used that argument then I'll have a Roush supercharged 5.4 DOHC with over 750hp thanks. All from only 5.4 ltrs. Who needs 7.0 ltrs? :p:rolleyes::eek:

More importantly, you can have your 600+hp chev cobras but good luck getting the power down :CRY:

FVP 5.4 DOHC 315kws? Chev needs the cubes, 6.2 ltrs, to match it! :D

Progress does march on...... :LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Seriously, is not really the engines as such, it's the packaging. That's the only real reason people are using Chevs. :) If I was starting my build now I would use one too. :CRY:

:CRY:

Firstly, getting the power down!!! That's why the Mickey Thompson corporation exsists today don't they?????

Secondly, if you Ford people are going pull the pee out of our beer can engines, the least you can do is spell your own "High Performance Ford department" correctly.....
