Side pipes fitted
Well I have finally spent some more time in the shed this past week.
I know have official conformation from the NT government to run with live side pipes, so I have fitted these and made my headers. Here is a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aar1nFaULwM The sound is a little muffled on the video (image taken useing digital still camera) I will be in the shed tonight bleeding brakes and clutch then it is ready for the first drive around the block. |
Go you good thing....
I am extremely jealous. Good job Boxhead, you'll be driving up to Darwin before you know it. Cheers Hogster |
I hope to be driving it around the block tonight.
|
that's the stuff boxhead we'll need a video of you driving too (this time in daylight ;)) LoBelly |
Well I took the Cobra for its first drive today.
All I can say is WOW. I have only done a string line alignment but must say the car is tracking very well, taking it in for an alignment next Saturday. I have put about 8 kls on the car today just driving around the block. I will get some pics of the car now (it is just about all together) and will attempt to get a video of me driving it (I will need to convince Ronda to do this as I drive past) There is a car show on in Alice next Sunday (11th) I was booking my TAC inspection and the guy who does it is one of the organisers for the show, he asked if I would bring the Cobra down as a display, Also there is a prize for project vehicles. So I will try to get a permit from the MVR to drive the car in for alignment on Saturday, drive to show on Sunday then drive to TAC inspector on Monday. I am so happy right now. :) |
Well done Boxhead.
I started up for the first time yesterday and that was great. First drive must be awesome! Ben |
Well done Boxhead.
Nationals? Richard |
Hi there Richard, Yes I am sure hoping to be at the Nationals with the car.
I am just trying to line all the planets up at the moment. |
Here are some pics I took today.

The quality isnt great but it was only taken with a still camera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX1UjTYrumY |
Looks good mate. Wish my street could double as a test track!
|
Hang on..
Hang on.. Was that a three point turn you did at about 25 secs into the video? Don't ya know that 3 point turns are just not done in a cobra. ;) Cheers box....looks great mate. |
Well Done!
Looka great boxhead. I especially like the boot latch...:3DSMILE:
regards Mick |
Definatly 3 point turns only at this stage, due to a large drop off at the roads edge and the fact that I havent even had the wheels spin on the dirt (still havent given it a boot full)
|
Well done for the build to this stage, but watch out for that power understeer, even on bitumen. The old adage slow in / fast out seems appropriate to power turns in these cars.
A good example of that is seen on U-Tube showing Mike Murphy's 2007 Nats. run in the motorkahna, where the kerbs came at him fast, having failed to really turn the car around some witches hats. I can attest to the same outcome in the early days of pre-engineering "testing" in a local commercial back street. Judging by other recent posts, there were fortunately no Hoon regulators nearby, to spoil my testing!! I doubt you will have that problem though, judging by the scenery backdrop in you U-tube clip!! Happy testing. |
Yep the area I live is country blocks way out of town, so shouldnt be too many issues, just dont want to drive too much as it is pretty loud with no packing inside the side pipes.
|
Congratulations David. That's a huge achievement and a big milestone inyour build.
Yep, I had a whole heap of steering lock on but it just kept going straight ahead. Eventually I found the only way to turn it was to get the rear wheels spinning. with my limited skills and seat time I managed to look pretty uncoordinated. It probably didn't help that there was dust and stones spread all over the surface from the trucks passing through. Cheers |
Sorry Mike not trying to bag you just a good example I guess. I'd have been exactly the same had I been able to have a go at the Nats. I just proved it elsewhere.
Whose red and white striped cobra is it showing how to make an almost faultless go at this. A super piece of car (throttle) control I'd sure love to be able to emulate. |

Those shorty side pipes did a great job blowing the crap off the course. |
No problem Stephen, I didn't think you were bagging me.
You're right about the street sweeper pipes Les. When I fire it up in the shed it blows dust and dirt everywhere. Peter Georgiou (acecob) shows us how it's done Cheers |
