First real drive
 
I had the wheel alignment done this morning, after finding a warm jacket, beanie and gloves (was 4.5 degrees out the front of my shed) I drove the Cobra into town today, had the wheel alignment done and went for a drive.

I am even more in love with the car than I was before, it is very easy to drive (when only using 1/4 throttle, but when you slowly squeeze the power on it produces wheel spin even in 3rd gear without trying (I havent tried pushing the throttle quickly).

I drove about 25 kls today and smiled for all of them.

I am driving down to a car show tomorrow to display as a project car.

I will get some pics of some of the local Alice cars that only come out on sunny days.

Oh did I say that I am happy :)

Didn't anyone tell you that that ear to ear grin you are currently sporting will be permanent as long as you have the car? :D

Congratulations Boxhead, it must be a great feeling to get your car mobile. Were there any problems aligning the front or rear of the car? Again well done!

I've had mine on the road for about 1 1/2 months & everytime I drive it, it feels like the first time!!!:D

Thanks to everyone for the coments.
Bernie a round trip of town via the rock would be 1000kls not 100.

I have plenty of car show pics and will go through them tonight, I will post the good cars tomorrow as I left my cable at work, Plus I am on dial up at home and it would take forever to get 1 or 2 pics happening.

Mando in regards to the alignment the back was no problem at all, however the front without any spacers was 2 degrees neg camber and about 10 caster.
I was advised to shoot for about 4.5 caster without power steering, the alighner got it to 5.5 and with 1 degree neg camber, to get a lower caster would have put me closer to zero camber.

I suspect when I drop the ride height it will allow me more adjustment and may be able to get things closer.

Or is it possable to move the shims that are on each side of the top ball joint so they are all infront of the ball joint (thus moving the top ball joint backward in relation to the lower one) to get a lower caster figure?

You might have your left and right hand upper arms round the wrong way. I did when I got mine aligned and the best I could get was about 6.5 degrees castor. swapping them over dropped it back to about 5 degrees.

Great to hear she's up and away, and is starting to reward you for the pain and suffering, frustration, spanner rash and expense. Another couple of drives and you're way in front.

How well it drives is of no surprise considering the quality of your build. Well done.

Hope to see it at the Nationals, although that would be a huge trip even by QLD standards.

Thanks for that Hogster, I already feel that I am in front, I cant feel any of the pain or fibreglass itch I have had for the past 3 or so years.

Andrew, not sure about a donut in the dust, would be a pain in the arse to clean up afterwards.

Chanmadd, thanks for that, it is what I thought but always good to get a conformation.

Stiffy, yes will be registered before paint.

Phil, so far every drive has been great, I now have hit 100kls on the odometer.

Hi CRaig, yes it will be a big drive but I am hoping to be there.

Hey there Bernie, can you believe I live in Alice Springs, the driest part of the driest continent and we dont have water restrictions.

Cobra#42, the Gen III is the LS1 engine as fitted to GM products.
