Senna hits a dog in the GP2 race
Brazilian Bruno Senna, nephew of the late triple Formula One world champion Ayrton, retired from a GP2 support race at the Turkish Grand Prix yesterday after hitting a stray dog that ran onto the track.
Maybe we should run the GP and GP2 cars at Bathurst to see how they fare against the kangaroos... |
Mmmm dinner tonight for some lucky punter there...
Racist but unfortunately true..%/ |
That's what happens when you use a 'race track' just ONCE a year. You get packs of stray dogs that think it's home. Then the Bernie Ecclestone Circus for Retarded Accountants turns up and makes lots of noise for one weekend - most inconsiderate. Still, as you say, the locals had a good barbie that evening - waste not, want not. Ah Turkey - the traditional home of Grand Prix racing for almost, oooh, a year or two...

pssst Sydney - wanna hold a prestigious event that will have the worlds eyes upon you and be 'great' for tourism?... LoBelly |
Did anyone notice the empty grandstands there in Turkey Sunday morning? F1 is turning into a TV only series, except when they get to Europe and the Americas. Bernie also looks a little worn these days, probably from hanging out and partying with the Sultans and such.

Senna got off lucky, with just damaged front suspension. 'Wouldn't be at all surprised if the FIA doesn't spank the Turkish organizers.
Back in June 1966, while covering the French Grand Prix at Reims, I remember ol' Jim Clark struck a sparrow while braking for the Thillois Curve, on the back straight, during the Thursday practice. He took it right in the goggles (back in '66 there were no full face helmets), and damaged his eye, getting a big blood clot (it looked awful). Scared the crap out of him; Pedro Rodriguez ended up subbing for him. There's an Aussie connection here, as this was Black Jack's first win in the Brabham-Repco, first for a driver/owner having a car with his name on it! Pretty historical. I know Bernie is old enough to remember it! |
Tom Pryce--F1--1977. And the track marshall. Sad,very sad.

When my foreign friends come to visit and pet my dogs I always cringe when I hear them say, "Good dog." :D
Recently a dog was stolen by a golf course worker here on Oahu. You guessed it, the guy was hungry and the dog WAS BBQ'd. No kidding! He was charged with a crime or two... |
