Charcoal canister help please
Picked up an AU falcon canister today....using as much AU stuff as I can so that I can try and ease the compliance burden for the windsor engine.
Anyway, trying to get my head around what is what There are 4 lines 1 - is blocked 2 - I think goes to air 3 - vent from tank 4 - purge line to manifold The issue is that there is a to wired solenoid that I think came from the purge line (got a box with stuff unattached). Does anyone know what activates that solenoid or is it simply a case of hooking up to some part of the ignition so that the line is open while the car is running:confused: Thanks Hogster |

make sur eu get this right i had a transit van which i wired up an au v8 and idiot mechanic hooked a vac purge line to the tank direct with no solenoid and no canister now the transits have a plastic tank so within 2 mnutes of running the vacuum in the enigne sucked the fuel tank together and would overheat the pump so hot u coul dnot touch it was prob lucky it didnt go boooooooooooooommmmmmm |

If the car was at home I could send a pic. Not sure why I don't have one anyway. One of the connectors into the cannister runs two lines but for the life of me I can't recall any of them!! Concur with sideshow though, in that the ecu drives the purge action and just make sure this connection is high up on the filler neck. I used the provided connections on the fuel tank and had petrol being pumped out the purge line not a safe event!! |

I should add that the cannister style didn't change much but the layout seemed to although this may have just been my observation on pre AU cars in the pick a part yard. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow of my set up as it is one item not yet stripped off. Cheers |

Got to the car this morning and took the following picture - Attachment 14085 This shows my cannister located above and behind the rear wheel in the top inside of the driver's side wheel arch. Top line is the purge line to atmosphere and just runs around the rear of the arch to the outer side of the wheel well. The other line is blanked off. The lower connector line leading to the clear hose is then connected high up on the fuel filling neck. The other line leads around to the engine vapour line through the purge solenoid. You need to think about how you mount the solenoid as when mine turned on you got this strange high frequency rattle. Until I figured it out I was paranoid the engine was having a failure. it is pin 67 that drives the evap solenoid and 71 (red) if it is working properly it will tick away at idle, hook solenoid between engine vacum and canister hook the upper most outlet the one near the filler cap it is a black little canister if you have the vn tank to the carbon canister the other end will vent into the air cleaner cheers jess |

late model aussie cars are a pain in the butt with charcoal canisters
the japs sure know how to build top quality cars goto yr local wreckers and use a canister of one of them about 1/3 the size of a comm or a ford canister |
