What year is it now???

:D :D

martrogers 06-07-2008 07:45 PM

1 year to understand emissions issues, find/buy a donor car and strip donor car.

2 years to build (months just slip away when you're reliant on others for the bits you cant build yourself)

9 months and still waiting for engineering, blue slip and RTA VIN number...

For me however the rest of my life takes prioirty, I only work on it when I'm bored (which is often).

It also depends on the type of kit, the Homebush kit which I have is very much a hands on affair.

Like most others my "build" will continue long after it's on the road, starting with paintwork.

Id prefer not think about build times. Its 6 years this month since I received the kit and I should be finished in about 12 -14 months. Except for about 14 months that I spent building my house, I tried to do something for the car nearly every day, even if it was only to pick up nuts and bolts. Before I started I thought it would be finished in 5 years and cost me 1/2 as much as Ive spent.

Regards.

5 long years and counting, I've learned an immense amount along the way though !

MANDO... ! You're a smart man. That's exactly what I do. Some very short days, after work I do little stuff; even as little as drawing ideas and wiping dust. Like you, I reckon I must do something every day. It's amazing how the little jobs add up. But the most important thing is to keep the enthusiasm up when things get tedious or there never seems to be an end in sight.

5 years to registeration however it has been built twice in this time. 1 to get the car for right for compliance and 2nd after paint and rewire.
The Weapon has now been on the street 3 years and im still altering and modifying bits and pieces, now into the bling for teh engine.
starting to look sweet and chromey.
it will never stop.

i know the title is how long did it take to build, but lets throw in another question: HOW MUCH BEER DID YA DRINK WHILE BUILDING ! maybe we can get a discount from the brewer on future builds:LOL:

6 years to get it registered. How long till it's finished? I don't think these cars are ever finished.

I'm not to distressed about the length of time taken. I've stated on many occasions that a big part of the fun for me is the build process and fabricating parts etc.

At least now that it's registered I can tinker in the shed with the only pressure being getting it ready for the next event.

Cheers

Hi Mike, I was looking through your gallery and saw some nice rear wheels. Are the centres polished or painted? They look great!

Regards.

Vacation Home Build

I have a bit over 400 man-hours - not counting paint in my Lone Star.

That number is a bit deceiving as I participated in the Vacation Home Build where a factory representative comes to your house and stays a week with you to get most of the car together.

From nothing to driving around the block in 7 days!

The professional factory assistanace cannot be overemphasized.

Purchased mine pre-owned, but never started as far as assembly in Jan. of 2003, expect to have it done (enough for now) this month, So that makes it a 5 year 6 month build.

Sorry for the Hi Jack,

Which wheels are you refering to? I've had some new rears built but they have raw as cast centers. They will be HPC coated silver like the side pipes.

Cheers
