Rework?

I hate doing things 2 or sometimes 3 times, but here goes.
When I had my rearend narrowed years ago I had 2 new halfshafts made. Unfortunately I new less about cars back then than I do now. I took one of my old shafts as a sample and had 2 new ones made to what I measured on one side of my rearend, not knowing that the halfshafts are a different size on each side. When I tried to fit them one was fine but the other was to long or to short, I cant remember which one. Incredible as it may seem one of the old shafts fitted perfectly to the other side so I installed it.

Will I have a problem?????:(

Regards.

As long as there is no binding you should be fine.
Make sure the shaft will slide in and out when the wheels are in the ride height position.
The shaft should move on the cv ball bearings.

Hi Boxhead,
the shafts slide in and out as theyre supposed to, even when fully compressed.
What do you mean by binding?

Regards.

I think Dave is refering to making sure you have enough plunge in your axles. As the arms move up and down in their different arcs the axle will need to slide back and forth in the CV so that nothing binds up. If the axle bottoms out in the CV it might break it.

This is something I've been struggling with on my new rear end. I've made new drive flanges to gain the required clearance but it's still tight. Depending on how much negative camber I want to add to the rear I might have to machine up one slightly shorter axle. That'll be another fun project down the track.

Cheers

Yep, That is exactly what I mean.
It is a common problem in the off road buggys that race out here,
But they have 36 inches of suspension travel at the wheel.
