Thanks guys, still not sure but I'll take myself over to the Factory 5 site and perhaps talk to a painter or 2.

Martin

Get some good advice on the process and have a go yourself.

Once prepared for primer with all bits filled and sanded ready for primer paint, you can always ellicit advice as to whether the finish is good enough, and given the cars are all curve, it's either a small palm sander always on the move or hand sanding, either way a fair bit of time.

I've seen the finish of an amateur prepared car and it was excellent after spraying by a professional mob.

I've learnt off boat preparation for paint, lots of time and patience and you will get a good result, for the price of your time. This saves your money for that quality paint finish, the bit it sounds like you want a professional to do anyway.

Just get some good preparation advice first.

Cheers

Paint

IMO the paint is the most important thing on a car.

It takes 4 years to learn to be a painter/beater!!!!:o

There must be a reason for that.....:)

The paint cost alone are around $2k plus the paper and stuff.

Sticking the body out in the sun under black plastic, certainly speeds up the curing process. It's a hassle, but well worth it.

The body on my car sat in a shed for 15 years (this may not always be practical)

fortunately the style didn't date in that time ;)

Mine's 12 months old and has spent several weeks in the sun off and on during that time. Plenty of areas where the bog has shrunk and/or cracked.

From what I have seen/heard it is recommended to bake the fiberglass body in an oven before painting. It is not recommended to oven bake after painting.
