Midnight Blue on MKIII Cobras COB5001 & COB5006

I am trying to find the details about the Midnight Blue colour used on COB5001 and COB5006. They were AC MKIII's that were built in the AC Frimley factory in the mid 90's. There are some photos of these two Cobras in Trevor Leggates book "Cobra The First 40 years". Any ideas where the colour details could be found???

I just spotted a magazine(SUPER ROD May o8) with a modified mustang painted Viper (the car) Blue. Very nice and close to a metallic version of midnight blue

Or write to Den Tanner Editor of the great UK Mag "Cobra" that published legate's material recently.

This site shows a European discussion on colours but may not reach the period you want: http://www.cobraclub.com/forum/gener...ra-colors.html

They do have colour codes however.

Also Rob, I think that these ones in the 90's were seen as Mark IV's?

I'll get back to you with the answer. I need to talk to the (original) owner of both cars. I should know, having had my 427 painted the same shade, or very nearly! I think BMW might figure in the answer. (no point in contacting 'Kit Car' magazine!!)

Both cars are AC427s and have nothing whatever to do with the MkIV....

Hi Rob & Trevor,

I can save Trevor some time researching this as I asked the same question last year. The cars and the color aregorgeous. Here is Trevor's reply below:

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Hi

Sorry to take so long getting back, but the owner has been pretty busy recently. Basically, it was as I suspected - the colour is BMW Mauritius Blue

Thanks to everyone for your help here, special thanks to Mike and Trevor for the final details. This is the first time I have used the forum, although I do look with interest at some of the threads. My car is nearly done now, looking to do paint late this month, hence the colour thread.

You beat me to it! I was sat sitting here at my computerizator and the words 'Mauritius Blue' suddenly popped into me tired befuddled brain......doh.

I painted my Kirkham BMW Mauritius blue. It is a great color for these cars.

Just so we can all see what this colour looks like.

Yes! It looks great with the round Cobra curves and black pipes.

Thanks to Ron (Computerworks), I was able to load photos of my car into my gallery. It is painted BMW Mauritius blue. It's pretty dirty and hasn't been waxed in over a year, but the color still looks good.

Very nice! You have received top quality information there Rob. There is a very similar colour in the latest issue of Thoroughbred and Classic Cars, which has feature article on a Cobra from 1965.
