Regarding the brake test....I have no objection to the test being done at sane speeds and by some-one who will take the responsibility if some-thing goes wrong. Regarding noise.....I question a standard which had it's origin in exhaust noise and has now gotten so tight that now we have to address induction noise and mechanical noise. It is getting that way that even a sneaky "passing wind" :p if heard by these microphones will be illegal. My concerns are further magnified when certain "interest groups" have favorable attention...ie..Harleys, trikes, trucks, railway etc.. To me....noise is noise. |
I can understand brake tests being conducted from the speed limit down, or even 20% above the max speed limit in that state, but from 160km/h? Thats 45% above the max speed limit on roads. Moreso, the roads with the 110km/h limit make up less than 1% of our total roads!
This is ridiculous. |
I do not think the noise issue is just us these days - I have a few friends who ride Harleys and they have heard of other riders getting some nasty fines this year.
Cheers, Ben |
20% above NT posted speed limits is 156, Is this 160kph test part of passing ADR (Australian Design Rules)? If so then this could be the direction they have headed?
But I do agree that it does seem mind numbingly stupid to specify a test that requires a vehicle and its driver to break the law. Quote:

Phil, I had a feeling that a certain portion of your post was imminent, and what do you know, there it is. I thought it would make it's appearance earlier, but there you go. I'll have to work harder on honing my psychic powers. See you at the breakfast. Baz |
Hi Bobby,
I have been where you are going, I have a G-Force with an LS1. I am in NSW and our DB ratings are very low, so very challenging to get through. 1) restrict throttle to 1/3rd. 2) forget the sidepipes, go one single exhaust, with at least 2 mufflers in-line. 3) get some lead impregnated foam matting and encase the complete engine compartment, under over, sides, everything 4) use an old commodeore air pod, have about 2 metres of hose leading to it and absolutely stuff the pod full of foam, make sure the engine can't suck any foam in. If you do all that you should get through first time. Out of six cars that were being tested on the day mine was the only car that passed!! 2 db under. All the other cars on the day were at least 5db over, some as much as 15db!! Rob...happy to field any questions drop me a line 0411487527 |
