Adjustable seats
Hi Guys
Has anyone out there had any experience with sliding adjustable seats. Do you tend to sit too high with the sliders underneath? I am 180cm tall. Thanks Colin |

This depends on a range of factors including what seats your using and how you particular kit is set up for the seating in the cockpit area and to a lesser extent the rake of your windscreen. I've run MX5 seats on the standard runners and these are quite thin through the seat area though not as thin as at least one seat I'd seen in recent times but then this didn't have sliders either. If you can directly bolt the sliders onto the floor area, that's a start. I have to run plates off the chassis rails and welded bolts upright through these onto which the seat sliders mount. In the GF you have a horrible cockpit shape so it takes some work. As an example for rego (and speed) these plates just traversed the rails straight. My passender seat lowering has achieved about a 60 -70mm lowering in height and I am very happy with this outcome. Guess it also helps to be a short arse too at 169cm!! Have fun playing. Cheers |

I am 187cm and to make sure that any part of my head would not be above the windscreen I searched all the Jap parts importers until I found a seat that I could mount and I would seat low in car. I then bolted them straight to the RHS on the floor. Runners will add about 20 -25mm to the height of the seating position. Warren |
Colin, I am also 180+cm tall and found that in my Harrison that the seats had to be low. I did order the extended length body as well. I tried the smaller Mazda seats with runners but found that I would be sitting too high. I eventually went for Warwick's (approved) seat frames and had them trimmed by Street Trim at Labrador. I bolted the seats straight to the chassis cross rails. I played around with various pieces of wood on the front chassis rail to get the right height and angle for me when the windscreen was fitted. When satisfied with the position I made up a steel section that bolts between the seat base and the front chassis rail. The rear of the seat frame bolts straight to the second chassis rail. This arrangement is easy to change in the future as I get shorter!

Merv & sharon, I too am getting a Harrison (its in Warwick's shop now) and Warwicks seats. They fit me OK for length etc but I was thinking about my wife who wasn't ever going to drive my male menopause toy (her words) but as its gets closer the story seems to be changing a bit. So my thought was to put sliders in at a later date but was concerned about the height. Colin |
Just try different pieces of wood under the front of the seat, with her in the seat. When her eyes are in the middle of the screen that s/could be it! She might like lower, however? You could make two brackets that were higher at one end than the other for each side to bolt on to the rails (length-wise). That would produce a slope from front to rear - u could re-bolt the seat at different points, as she preferred. This would probably be the same extra height as a slider tho'.

My wife thought she would like to drive the Cobra as well. Although I have the extended chassis my wife reaches the pedals OK, but because I have the seat so low she sits very low in the car. When she drove it I was told how heavy the clutch was, how the non power assisted steering at slow speed was heavy and because being so low in the seat I was told she had trouble seeing the front of the car. She did enjoy driving was it once it was moving. Now when I ask her if she wants to drive she is tells me that she is happy to sit in the passenger seat. I think as Merv suggests, set the seat up in a second position to see if she enjoys driving it before you put runners on it. |
