Questions for you Ausies

Hello gents, just what is needed for your enginerring tests. We are reproducing the 1964 Griffith 200s and I got an inquiry from one of your countrymen asking if the car would pass "enginerring". Where can I get the info?

Bruce,

Look on the thread Passing the noise test one of the guys attached the regulation

Hi Mr Bruce,

Chassis down under need to pass a torsion and beaming test to check the rigidity of the chassis. I think it's 6000Newton Meters per degree of chassis twist. Someone here will probably have the right numbers and detail on how the test is done. It's basically bolting the chassis to a fixture and attaching a big lever to it and piling weight on the end whilst measuring the deflection.

There are some other factors to take into acount. It would be best if the suspension components were sourced from a donor vehicle. Fabricated components usually need an engineer to go over them and determine if they are fit for the purpose intended.

Intrusion bars in the doors are manditory and must be af a sturdy construction. Burst proof latches, seat belt mountings etc. Replica cars down here are registered as a new car so must meet the current Australian Design Rules. It's a real can of worms that we all have to chew through to get our cars on the road.

Cheers

The answer varies as to which State the car is to be registered in. If you look further down our recent threads posted you will see several oriented on this whole messy issue.

Best bet is to get in touch with the relevant State traffic/vehicle authority and get from them a schedule of approved vehicle engineers. Certainly in Victoria there is a Vicroads sanctioned list of engineers approved to sign off on our car's engineering approval.

I am guessing there will be a similar system for each of our States.

Best of luck is all I can say.

Cheers
