Winter is a good time to get some odd jobs out of the way.
After the upgrade to a fresh 347 from a very tired 289 the open diff was having a bit of a conniption. So after a lot of research confirming that I can put Dana44 bits in my Salisbury casing I find that that the cost of importing all the bits I want is only marginally less than having the local Jag guy redo the diff (although some of his parts are second hand). The local guy uses his own secret formula of bearings and bits and reckons he's been racing on one diff for 10 years... http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...AssemblyLQ.jpg Here my brother is adjusting the handbrake prior to us refitting the assembly, apparently you're supposed to put split pins in to stop the hand brake adjustment unwinding - who knew? As part of the deal a finned aluminium cover is provided Along with the 347 came a higher intake manifold which squashed the space available for an air filter - even after adding a bigger air scoop. Consequently the choke horn on the carbie was almost up against the top of the air-filter lid. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...082008-1LQ.jpg After some subtle massaging of the choke horn we were able to create a little extra room for air flow. Lastly, since the first time I saw those vintage decals I've really liked them, so I grabbed a set. (the camera on my mobile doesn't cope with the yellow colour of the car in the sunlight) http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...082008-1LQ.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...082008-3LQ.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...082008-4LQ.jpg LoBelly |

(Safety Improvements can be next year and as it turns out I won't be going  ) Apart from the mods shown above I was also going to address the front-end geometry (still have a copy of the info you passed on Rebel) and add an adjustable brake proportioning valve. The valve is because the front (jag four pot) brakes seem to be doing the majority of the work http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/Image014.jpg (nicely renovated jag grabbers) I know that the rears are doing something because I (well...) had to replace the pads before ShelbyFest - Its just that I cant feel they they're doing anything in the first place - so I don't know if they're fading or not. I don't seem to suffer any noticeable deterioration in braking overall. I use the nice red or green pads if that's of any use. As for 69 it has a nice ying-yang symmetry (dare I say 'feel') about it but I thought I'd go a year in which the cobra was produced and Brian Wilson has the 66 plastered on his LoBelly |
I can't remember if I sent this to you:
