Spax Shockies
Hi there Guys and Gals.
Friday tech question time. I have Spax shockies on my car (got them at a great price when money was tight, will get better later) I am wondering if anyone knows how to adjust them, the pic shows the rear shock and you can see the adjuster, but is all the way in harder or softer? They never came with instructions. Also where should I have them set? The car feels soft in the back and stiff in the front (I think mainly due to the springs) it is comfortable on longer drives but probably not the best for circuit stuff, any tips? http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...g?t=1219370668 |
Same as mine Bobby, harder is clockwise. It is usually printed on a sticker on the body of the shock.
Early series had 8 adjustments...later ones 12 I think, maybe 16. EDIT.....looks like 28 adjustments on the new ones. The initial "clicks" from soft are hard to feel, but they get better as you wind them up. Actually they are a good shock....the only problem being they mostly use imperial size springs. Mine take 57mm springs (2.25")....not 60mm as one would expect. Cheers Les |
I was told they are adjustable for compression and for rebound.
I am guessing they can not be adjusted seperatly? Also when I turn the small centre bolt with a screwdriver, it can be turned full circle as many times as you like, do you need to see how far the bolt is poking out to know where your starting from? |
Mine stops at the zero, ie soft position. then you have to count the clicks to know where you are.
Mine also "free wheel" at the hardest setting. ie. you can turn all day and it won't stop turning. Cheers |
Sheezzz.....just adjusted some of mine and it appears they DO stop at maximum setting.
I'm bluddy sure some just freewheeled at maximum....Think I'll check them all just in case I've got some bum ones. |
Bobby, I just rang the distributors and they tell me some have a hard stop on full adjust.....some don't.
It depends on the age of the shock. Cheers |

Spax shocks
I run Spax and find they are best at full hard.

Dave
I've got spax on the rear (jag) but only run 1 each side. I'm sure they are 14 clicks to full hard. I run mine at 7 -midway. Any harder and they were too skatey over the bumps at Wakefield. |
Thanks for that David, I will check mine when I get home on Friday and have a play this weekend.
