Gauges - Speed Hut
 

After a considerable amount of research I have finally purchased my gauges. I must have looked at 100 different interiors, gauge layouts, designs etc. I thought I had found the ones I wanted but the km/h speedo was only available to 200km per hour...I'd like to see what happens after 3rd gear! I then found another set but their odometer only had 5 digits - not the 6 required by ADRs...more hoops to jump through.

A friend at work brought a U.S. hot rod magazine with him (I work overseas) and I was flicking through the pages and found an ad for gauges. I jumped on their website and checked them out. I was amazed at their designs, options, customisable faces etc and had to have them. Same as last time only 5 digits on the odometer. I sent them an email and explained the ADR requirement, the bloke spoke to the techs and "BINGO" 6 digit odometer at no extra charge. They have a few styles of gauges with an awesome range of imperial and metric, a really easy to use website. I went through the site, wrote down exactly what I wanted and sent them an email e.g. font style, logo, face colour, bezel style and lighting option. They sent me an invoice through 'paypal', I paid...5 days later my gauges are here...voila. They came with wiring including high quality plugs and senders. Complete instructions for calibrating speedo, tacho, fuel gauge etc were also included.

A whisker over US$900. That included 7 gauges, speedo sender, and postage. If you want to know any more details or have questions you can't find the answers to on the website, let me know. I dealt with Aaron at Speedhut and found him helpful, he organised the lot.

These look very good. Another quality US gauge manufacturer is Classic Instruments. They also have an agent in Sydney now and he is extremely helpful in adjusting to our requirements.

They look bloody terrific, I was planning on getting a set of Smiths to replace the ones in mine but I recon these are going to be fitted instead

Classic Instruments was the first gauge company I looked at after seeing them in a car at a Gold Coast show. I sent them emails with a few questions, they won't do a km/h speedo over 200! :(

Yes that was the only hassle (only with metric!!) but they made up for me by providing all the extra bits and adapters that I needed for the senders and their man Maurie in Sydney is so helpful. The ones from "the Hut" look excellent, however. I liked the simple approach you have there. The Smiths were in my mind just not worth the double the current price for the Classics. What kind of dash material are you using wood or aluminium?

Really nice guages,

I like the fact they use stepper motors for all the smaller guages. You get a full 270 degree sweep rather than the 120 degrees or so from a regular electric guage.

If I didn't already have my Autometer guages I would buy a set of those.

I went to the web site to look at the options and it looks like a really good service - picking your colours and logos etc - and like Mike said the 270deg sweep looks great.

Like you I figured I'd get past 200kph (125mph) and wanted to see where I got to - so I got the next step up in the VDO range that was 300kph (187mph)- also got the smaller of the two guage sizes. Its all a bit squishy really and so far I haven't really had time to check my speed on a track - too busy checking oil/water/rpm/breaking markers.

I think those gauges are going to be nice and easy to read while you're going at it.
