Underbody exhaust.
Took the cobra for a trailer ride recently to brisbane.
An old mate directed me to Custom Exhaust Systems in Meadowbook. Without any prior warning or booking I was very lucky that Trevor and his team were able to help me out with a nice underbody system. Nice mandrel bent headers, though 2 megaflow cats, x-piped centre section and a couple of lukeys at the back. Trevor even missed his saturday racing to help finish the system. I have some welding and mounting to finalise, but am extremely happy with the work CES did. Very nice work it seems! I have spoken to Kevin as well and will hopefully be visiting him next month! No clearance problems at the back?

Those cat's seem a little close to the trans. Might it get a little hot in there?

Also got some good advice on triangulating the chassis, modifying the diff base plate and engine mounts to prevent torque twist. All in all, bang for your buck, good people, good people who know thier sh"t. |
Thanks for the good advice. I will give him plenty of notice. I plan on putting the motor and gearbox in over the next two weeks and Warwick Harrison is having some nice ceramic coated headers with O2 sensors made for us. I have the cats already. Thinking I will go for stainless from the cats on down. Then I can start the thing!

Funnily enuff Cameron and Terry,
there is quite a bit of airflow and vacant landscape around the cats. The guys got the cats in the right spot. The Evans kit has room for a C10 or similar huge tranny and the T56 Tremec looks anorexic in there. I plan to narrow down the floor tunnel slightly and finish with a 3mm sheet Aluminium tunnel. This allows better fitting or seats and a handbrake in the Evans kit. Even after that there will be good airflow around the cats but I will even take care then and fit alum/ coated fire blanket or 3 mm Al sheets under the floor.. Its hot enuff out this way without unnderfloor heating. |
Cameron, You are correct. There is not much room in these Cobras but frying a transmission with the cats would not be prefered:eek:. They just looked real close in the picture.

You make a good point Terry. Cats are a bugger to find space for. Does anybody know if it is advisable to get cats ceramic coated?

I reckon there would be enough airflow in there to keep most of the heat away from the trans whilst on the move. You could always install a heat shield between the cat and trans if it became a problem.

Getting the cats ceramic coated should not be a problem as the coating is sprayed on and not dipped so it shouldnt affect the inside.
