LS2/L98/L76 engine info
My car is down at Kenmer Engineering (Marty Govert's) with the new L98 crate motor, LS7 clutch and other bits and I plan to spend the next few Saturdays piecing it all together.
As with modern engines there's a whole stack of sensors, wiring plugs, pollution gear etc that I have no idea about, and I'm also after torque settings (eg, flywheel) and whatever else will help with the learning curve. Marty's a wealth of knowledge and even admitted to being a GM fan "from way back" but I don't want to give him ammo for his "let's see if the IT nerd can work this out" rhetoric! Hi Marty. So if anyone has access to diagrams, PDFs, schematics relating to the LSx series engines I'd be greatful if you would share it. I'm not attacking the wiring loom just yet, mainly the mechanical side of things. I have the T56 service guide already, thanks. Thanks in advance. Paul |
Sambo,
Have a look at the Painless Wiring manual for their LS2 engine harness. Certainly clarified things for me in the context of a 'LS2 in a Cobra' scenario. Sideshow was a great help also. Cheers |

SAMBO,
Speak to John Cini 0418 389 466 he is the best in the business for ALL YOUR WIRING requirements. He will make it look like a factory job..:D STIFFY |
Thanks guys - will file that away until I decide to tackle the wiring. It's more just general knowledge on the engine that I'm after at this stage. Something like a service or workshop manual.
Hey Stiffy how's the move going and do you want me to take your sump kit to Marty's? I'll be there Saturday. |
flywheel bolts 3 stage torque 1st 20nm/15ftlb 2nd 50nm/37ftlb 3rd/final 100nm/74ftlb LS7 clutch 70nm/52ftlb
Anything else in particular you need to know? The sensers are pretty easy to work out. |
Thanks alffie. Um... how about torques for sump bolts and engine mount bolts? Are threads sleeved on alloy blocks? Do you use loctite anywhere?
|
mount bracket bolts 50nm/37ftlb oil pan m6 bolts 12nm m8 25nm. Not the LS7 the threads are tapped into the alloymost bolts use threadlock GM PN 12345382 if your keen. My maniflod bolts had been loctited and boy they fought every thread!

You can get the GM manuals from helminc.com, there pretty cheap

Sambo, I only have the LS1 torque specs, they are at home I can bring to work and email to you if you like, just not sure how correct they will be for you.
